An interesting sort of chart, and not one which you will see day after day after day.

The chart’s focus on black music – from a European – can in a strange way remind me a little of myself – an Australian who, with age, has realised that relative to its population Australia is an exceedingly conformist culture with extremely low levels of creativity.

Within that, the chart has much diversity, ranging from pre-rock blues musicians to twenty-first century rap, and as always I appreciate this variety.

One album – Bunny Wailer’s Blackheart Man – I knew of via David Keenan’s 2003 The Best Albums Ever...Honest, but I had never seen it on any other all-time chart until now. The chart does not really resemble Keenan’s list that much, though, with only six albums overall in common, with the other five (The Velvet Underground and Nico, Kind of Blue, Maggot Brain, A Love Supreme and Odessey And Oracle) all being staples on these sorts of charts.
