My favorite Floyd album. Musically, it expands on the space rock of Dark Side of the Moon, while anticipating the lyrical darkness of The Wall, but without The Wall's slickness and extreme indulgence. Best showcase for Gilmour of any Floyd album. But Floyd isn't a favorite artist of mine, so put me down for a no.

Why do you think it might be the best album ever, Nuno?

Its a fabulous album.
No argument.
I find that its a bit short- needs another 20 minutes.
Best album? If you stated"dark side of the moon"
Or "wish you were here" i might agree.
Have't seen anyone on their charts, list animals #1.

25+ members have it as their #1, but that's out of the 721 who have it in their overall charts! Obviously the numbers for DSOTM and WYWH are going to be way higher.

StreakyNuno only has it at #12 with DSOTM at #1 and WYWH at #2. Haven't gotten around to a chart update?

Though its pretty darn good, out of their best albums, I'd probably rate/rank it the lowest.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn > A Saucerful of Secrets > Ummagumma > Wish You Were Here >Atom Heart Mother > Dark Side of the Moon > The Wall > Meddle > Animals

Undecided: More (1968)

The rest of their albums are mediocre...

There is a pretty solid case to be made that Pink Floyd was the greatest Rock band of all time though. I wouldn't quite agree with such a take but it's not at all out of the question. So Animals being 9th/10th isnt a poor reflection, considering the strength of their discography.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is arguably their best album (Animals is just my favorite), but I think everything between when Syd Barrett left and Dark Side of the Moon is weak, except for some of the most experimental tracks on Ummagumma (things start improving with Meddle). To me Atom Heart Mother is one of their worst albums, only better than the soundtrack albums and The Final Cut (not counting the post-Waters albums).

I'd say it's their best, that or Wish You Were Here. Pretty sure it's in my top 10. Animals>Wish You Were Here>The Wall>Meddle>Piper>Dark Side>Final Cut>Atom Heart>Saucerful

Wish You Were Here is my favourite Pink Floyd album and my favourite album of all time.
I'd place Animals fourth after Dark Side and The Wall.
