Giving her latest a spin now... (a better copy leaked this morning)
Dunno Chief, it's pretty good so far I haven't been following her since Ultraviolence, but I'm hearing some great Cat Power and Fiona Apple influences (and maybe some 90's trip-hop... but... not?). The 90's is strong with this one.
I'm not sure the new psych-ier mix on Venice Bitch does it justice, but what a track.
Only about halfway through so far. Might edit some thoughts in later.

I was about to write something about her annoying faux-nostalgia image when I decided to lookup that terribly-titled song again. I almost did a spit-take when I saw that the second highest rated comment said,
"Can't believe Lana invented nostalgia."
Her music is not really the issue, it's the persona, and the boatload of artistic chicanery that comes with it. It's confounding to a degree that makes my mind reel.

Her persona is absolutely contrived (although arguably sometimes in a satirical way), and her fanbase is annoying as hell. But I don't really care because for me it's about whether the music sounds good or not. _________________ Add me on RYM

So, her fans are stupid, and her image is contrived, but her music is both popular and critically acclaimed.
That is my conundrum, I just can't think of another artist (and I'm using that term loosely here) that's ever been quite like that. Somebody help me out. What is the appeal?
(And if you mention Chan Marshall in the same breath as her again, then ima snap. )

It takes more effort to have a strong opinion about about sth than to just accept it. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Either way, I think her latest is a giant step forward. It'll definitely be on my 2019 chart. Maybe give it a listen? I can get why people might not like it, but it's leagues ahead of Born To Die (which is nearly in BEA's top 500), and if that dictates anything, NFR is going to be a massive success. The Greatest is probably one of the best songs I've heard this year.
Get ready for a P4k 8.8-9.2 sometime later this week.

Eminem fans 20 years ago come to mind (they're still around today, but Em's praise isn't).
