Nice! A singer-songwriter masterpiece. Imagine having that strong of a debut album in 67, must have been really difficult to keep track of great music that year. 1st album i ever heard from him as well and it grabbed my attention immediately with Suzanne.
Besides that the mid album combo of "so long, mariane" and "hey, thats no way to say goodbye" makes it almost impossible not to get emotional given his somewhat recent death.

The closing track "One of us cannot be wrong" is Cohen's most unappreciated gem. The album version is nice but I would reccommend the version played on San Sebastian in 1988 (part of "Cohen Live" but I just checked and it's on Youtube)

I prefer Songs of Love and Hate, but this album is pretty close to the peak of the whole singer-songwriter/folk genre of its time (thinking of artists like Dylan, Mitchell, Drake etc.) _________________ Stay noided

Love this album from front to back but the track that rattles around my head like a trapped buggie is Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye.
There's a version on youtube with Judy Collins from 1976, give it a listen.
As for Suzanne, Marianne and One of us cannot be wrong....beautiful.
Not a bad attempt for a debut album
