33 & 1/3 Books

Just been busy with work but I'm still here. But I had a bit of an epiphany where I think users would like and would be if you had a chance to make a 33 1/3 book of any album, what would it be?

I got a couple of albums I would consider. But what are yours?

I'll just butt in and say that Let's Talk About Love is the only one (of about 20) I've read that's more than a compendium of anecdotes or a personal journey no one cares to read. Probably the only one I'd recommend. And not because of the record it covers.

I guess the easy answers would be my favorite albums: Emergency & I, The Lonesome Crowded West, or even To Pimp a Butterfly (which will probably get a book someday assuming they're still publishing these). Otherwise Joni Mitchell's Blue stands out since there's a Court and Spark book but Blue is so much better. But if I had the chance to write and research one of these I'd pick a bit of an odd choice and go with Ghost Tropic by Songs: Ohia. I read a biography of Jason Molina earlier this year that went really in depth on Molina's records, even down to how the studio was laid out when they recorded Magnolia Electric Co. But the book barely mentions Ghost Tropic even though it's the weirdest things he ever recorded, and I'd love to learn more about why it came about.

I've only read a few of these, but I would highly recommend the one on Dead Kennedys' Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. It gives great insight not only into the songs, but also the social / political climate of the era and what the San Francisco punk scene was like at the time. After reading it I appreciate the album even more than I did before reading it.

Yeah I have a hunch that at somepoint TPAB will get a book on it.

I haven't read any of these books, but this is a cool album list that I will consider going through for the canon game.
