Working on this now ... Recommendations welcome ... Fwiw, this doesn't mean I am "done" with working on the "Best Animated Films" list, but I have needed a break from it ... I may also start working on Country (with side genres) and Pop (plus associated genres), but I'll start with Hip Hop etc and see where that leads me. Basically the three/four major genres that are most prone to the mainstream (Pop, Country, Hip Hop/R and B)... filling these out a bit more. A side curiosity of this "project" is also to clarify my ratings below 7.3, including below 6.8 (which I may fill out a bit more than usual ... we'll see how long I can last with that) and also out of curiosity to see if my ratings hold as well (or not) in that range in comparison to Scaruffi. Generally, mainstream Hip hop, R and B, and Pop seem to have a lower similarity rate than other genres whether I try one before he rates it or after. Or, more specifically, is that my similarity to Scaruffi's ratings tends to be closer in proportion to how "non-mainstream" the work is (probably approx 85% similarity, within less than 1/2 ratings point, for less mainstream works), and then dips to maybe 65-70% on more mainstream albums. So there is a part of me that is curious to see if listening to more of these closes that gap (or not), while just simultaneously polishing up my own "feeling of accuracy" in these ranges regardless of how similar they are to Scaruffi or not. This all of course also aligns to my intended re-consideration and re-working of my criteria page ratings scale, nerdy shit like double checking how many 6s go into a 7 or 7.5, and what-not, which will hopefully lead to a re-working of the "combo ratings" and then the "higher precision" or more "advanced" calculations that were being discussed with DelBoca and, later, Rhyner.

Enter The Wu-Tang - Wu-Tang Clan (very curious about your thoughts on this)
Float - Aesop Rock
Luv(sic) Hexalogy - Nujabes
Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix) - Death Grips (Scaruffi never rated this for some reason)
Lil Peep, Part 1 - Lil Peep
XXX - Danny Brown
El Negro - Signor Benedick the Moor
Laila's Wisdom - Rapsody

*I mean I'm pretty curious about what you think of all of this, but Wu-Tang especially. Surprised Scaruffi didn't give it a 7.5 despite how much he praised it.

Thanks!

I added Float and Enter the Wu-Tang with "tentative / may need revisit" ratings/rankings, plus several others (in bold) that I hadn't transferred over to this list yet (from my main "Greatest Albums" list). I also added 6.7 and below echelons with a decent helping of selections (though incomplete of course).

I've heard Lil Peep and Danny Brown but need to listen again. The rest would be new to me.

Some hip hop suggestions, possibly 7.3+:
Donuts - J Dilla (2006)
The Money Store - Death Grips (2012)
Innercity Griots - Freestyle Fellowship (1993)
From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots - Dalek (2002)
Absence - Dalek (2005)
I'll Sleep When You're Dead - El-P (2007)
Critical Beatdown - Ultramagnetic MC's (1988)
Selebeyone - Steve Lehman (2016)
Carnelian - Kill the Vultures (2015)
The Way of the Cipher - Steve Coleman and Metrics (1995)
Labor Days - Aesop Rock (2001)
Spiral Walls Containing Autumns of Light - Divine Styler (1992)
Sex Packets - Digital Underground (1990)
Traumnovelle - Coin locker kid (2012)
Organized Konfusion - Organized Konfusion (1991)

Also, why list Speakerboxx and The Love Below separately? Might as well list Church Gone Wild and Chirpin Hard separately, or the live and studio halves of Ummagumma, etc

Thanks I threw Money Store up there (though needs a revisit to be more sure). Pretty sure Donuts would be a 7ish, though I'll probably revisit that one because its shaky. And Dalek's Absence as well. I don't think I've heard any of the rest, except maybe that Ultramagnetic MCs one (seems to ring a bell, but not sure...).

One could go either way on the Speakerboxx/Love Below split, considering it a single "combined" work, or two separate albums. Its just so clearly them releasing two completely separate albums as a packaged "Outkast" release (which if I remember right, they've confirmed), so that's the main reason. But, I actually had it listed "combined" before I split them up, so I'm not too opposed to that. And maybe you could say the same thing about the Hella release. I'm not sure you could with Ummagumma... When I get the chance I'll look into SB/TLB a bit and might change my mind. To come up with a "combined" rating, this might also entail listening to the whole again, though I'm not sure I'm willing to do that on this round of hip hop listening. It probably wouldn't rate much better than TLB even combined -- maybe even lower overall -- because there isn't much accumulation happening as the two sides are so disparate (therefore, it would be partially, maybe mostly, an avg between the two instead of one building off the other).

Probably. Think I've only listened to it maybe once (twice?) in the last decade, so if I feel re-familiarized with it enough after a new spin during this round of listening, maybe I'll give it a shot.

RE: KLIMT BEETHOVEN FRIEZE

I just found a link to the whole frieze in one shot at extremely high resolution + highest quality + largest image available, that appears to have been recently produced by Google Arts and Culture. It's now on my "Greatest Paintings" list in the images and links section just under the immediately visible images of the work. Titled: FULL VIEW - ENTIRE FRIEZE - LARGEST IMAGE - HIGHEST QUALITY AND RESOLUTION - ZOOM FUNCTION.

This is a pretty big deal towards making analysis of it far easier, without having to resort to several individual links to view its parts in higher resolution/quality (though one can still do so if they want to highlight just one part). And also, this basically ends the necessity to view the work up close through various HQ art books on Klimt, which although I had used on many occasions, being books they weren't possible to provide access to through my list. In short, this new link is a godsend for analyzing the work. Getting up close to Klimt's art, his unique ornamentation and colors and figures, and especially his sense of line/extraordinary draughtsmanship, which carries with it its own emotional, thematic feelings and "momentum", is a MUST towards truly coming to grips with this astonishing work (and his others).

Fyi, I also made a similar update for The Kiss, where I replaced a link to its "largest, highest resolution" image that was no longer working, with a newer one from Google Arts and Culture that IS working.

Oh dang that is helpful! Insight on Friendly As a Hand Grenade? I'd read Scaruffi's thoughts but I can't speak Italian. I will say that Demolition House is a weird track and Ska Trek is awesomely funky and kinda ska.

...I still don't understand why Scaruffi associates it with hip-hop but whatever.
