It might be my favourite of the 4. Maybe it's just the initial reaction, but some of the lines here man...

"The X on the map where the pain keep hitting
Just us ducks here sitting
Where murderous chokehold cops still earnin' a livin'
Funny how some say money don't matter
That's rich now, isn't it, get it? Comedy
Try to sell a pack a smokes to get food
Get killed and it's not an anamoly
But hey, it's just money"

I'm not an American but this hits hard.

I still think RTJ3 is their best for now (higher highs, longer but still more consistent), but this is probably my second favorite.

We're about halfway through the year so I figured I'd vomit some of what I've found that's worth returning to for me (if you want something different).

Joanna Mattrey - Veiled (solo viola)
Ernstalbrecht Stiebler - Für Biliana (strings up to trio)
Sabine Vogel - isolated . connected (flute, clarinet, elec., and voice solos/duos/quintet)
Nate Wooley - Three Studies for Future Uncertainties (solo trumpet and objects)
Matthias Müller - Acud/Bunker (solo trombone)
Aine O'Dwyer - Daedalus Airs
Ken Vandermark/Ikue Mori - Consequent Duos series 2c (sax/elec)
Anthony Braxton/Eugene Chadbourne - Duo (Improv) 2017 (winds/plucked strings)
Carl Testa - Sway Prototypes Vol. 3 (eai ensembles)
Brandon Lopez Trio - Triptych (sax/bass/drums shredding)
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters

Been digging some Oval, Vladislav Delay, Autechre, and Nicolas Jaar but just not feeling it like previous releases.

Most anticipated releases are Andy Stott and Macie Stewart/Lia Kohl.

Best reissues are The Astronomical Unit's Super Earth and the Wandelweiser und so weiter comp.

Not technically a 2020 album, since it was recorded back in the 70s, but Neil Young is releasing Homegrown next week. If you're not familiar with it, the story goes that he was originally planning to release it back when it was recorded but decided it was too personal to do so. Instead he released Tonight's the Night, which is...a very personal album. I've been curious about what this sounds like ever since I heard about it, and while a lot of the songs rumored to be on it have been released in some form I've held off on checking them out in case the real thing was ever released. Suffice it to say I can't wait until next week, in part because of this song which he just released today. It sounds like classic Neil, any fans of On the Beach or Tonight's the Night will definitely dig this:

Some recent favs:

Siti Of Unguja (Romance Revolution On Z...ti Muharam
(I can't even think of a genre to tag this with, but it's great)

Kaloli by Nihiloxica
Bonkers percussion. Almost drum and bass meets afrobeat but... not. If you dig their previous EPs, you'll dig this (but it is a little different).

Planos Para Construir by Mabe Fratti
Minimal artpop meets classical. Thought her release last year was pretty good, but this is slightly better.

The Dancing Devils Of Djibouti by Groupe RTD
Absolute blast of an album from Djibouti. Just a whole bunch of fun. Brilliant brass section too.

Vodou Alé by Chouk Bwa & The Ångstromers
Voodoo dub. Yeah, that exists. Great grooves here.

Adeus by Arthur Melo
This one hasn't landed my 2020 just yet, but it's a lovely indie MBP album. Very mellow, melancholic and heartfelt work.

Chatta by Chepang
And aight, I'm almost never big on grindcore, but I dig this. It feels more structured than the genre usually is, and the production's fantastic.

And the new RTJ's pretty solid.

If you're looking for some solid black metal (with a dash of hardcore), this album is very good
