Ajai by Serengeti

I haven't heard a new Serengeti in at least six years, but this is stellar. One of the best hip-hop records of the year. I'd hate to see it slip under the radar.

Gave the new Wanderwelle, US Girls and Niagara albums a listen too. They were okay. Maybe a little disappointing. Apart from big-tickets like Fiona Apple and Yves Tumor, I don't think April was too hot. No way I'm putting myself through the new CSR or Drake records.

I am afraid not Sad Although when I saw it I went straight onto youtube and checked all the related videos thinking there could be a chance it will be there.

Sure it was a 2020 release although not on this thread either and searching for a thread it could be just brought mountains of album/chart of the week.

Can you remember if there was a conversation or thread about more ambient music this year? I first heard it while visiting my sisters house through so the post will definitely been before lockdown and after Jan 1st

Old Man Gloom has two new albums out, and so far one of them is lacking any form of imagination. It's completely driven by overpowered sludginess.

That's what I call news. Will have to binge the first 3 just before IV drops. I loved all of the singles so far, and I wouldn't be disappointed even if it's more of the same from RTJ.

Fuck yes. If this isn't one of 2020's best I'll be really upset.

For anyone who's missed it, here's some great ambient tech-house (and so much more) from one of Matmos members (doesn't sound anything like Matmos though).

Un Canto Por México, Vol. 1 by Natalia Lafourcade

How I'm Feeling Now by Charli XCX

Two more great albums this week, and for the same reason— Lafourcade and Charli are both at the truest to the sound they want to make. Apples and oranges of albums, but both are stellar for what they are. The fact Charli XCX whipped up the entire project in quarantine is an insane showcase of where music production could head. Bedroom pop's not bedroom pop anymore.

Looking forward to Lafourcade's Vol 2 too.

I had somehow managed to totally ignore all 2020 releases until I finally looked at BEA's current ranking. So far I've only listened to these...

Song For Our Daughter by Laura Marling

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

The New Abnormal by The Strokes
