... was really hoping somebody would nominate "War on Drugs: Suck my Cock".
ANyways going with the K man here, still remarkable someone who mainly stays acoustic can still sound so singular, though don't know if this is his best from the era (surprised Skinny didn't put up "Gustavo", maybe if Cellar was around?). While I think BoC are usually pretty consistiently terrific and I indeed enjoy Tommorrow's Harvest I'm a little puzzled how they've become so popular in these song-based tournaments, as this just feels like one key piece of a bigger puzzle. Hmm. Still good, but Sun kills the harvest this go-around.

Good news: “The Ottawa Blues Fest Is Run By Inbreds” came out in 2015 so you can still nominate it for the next tourney!
"Carisa" is probably like my 6th favorite song on Benji but the album's so great I would vote for every track on it in this match-up (except maybe "Dogs"). Even if it's not my favorite it still captures a lot of what was so great about Mark's writing during that time period - the way he says "goddamn, what are the odds" is one of my favorite moments on the album.
The BoC track is fine but agreed that listening to their tracks alone like this never do much for me. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
There's so many worthy Kozelek songs to choose from this time period. I think Carissa might be his best song. But I could say the same about Gustavo, You Missed My Heart, I Watched the Film The Song Remains the Same, Bay of Skulls, Tavoris Cloud, Mariette, and Randy Quaid.
He was probably at his songwriting peak during this period.
Yeah, so obviously Carissa for me. Maybe Carissa for the tournament. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
I still find myself absent-mindedly singing 'Carissa' to myself every now and then, despite having not heard it now for two or three years. Really lovely melody, the story really stuck with me. I still prefer a few Koz songs from this period, but it'll take a lot for me to vote against it. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
I thought Carissa was considered to be the best Benji song taken out of context. Either that or Ben's My Friend. Anyways one of my favourite all-time albums, I Watched The Movie... is my favourite, but it's too long so I nominated something else. Anything from Benji would get my vote against this BoC track, which is cool but not cool enough. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
