Ooof, what a decade this past month has been. I mean, ten years. What a decade this past ten years has been.

Life Itself has felt rather Inside Out as of late, as if The World’s End is upon Us, but now’s the time to reflect on The Favourite releases of this decade and Begin Again anew for the next! Remember that time La La Land won best picture? Or when they made Cats? Despite our Darkest Hour, throughout the Pain and Glory, the Contagion, the Spectacular Now of living Solo, A Hidden Life Beyond 127 Hours in confinement, Take Shelter this Weekend and glue those Big Eyes to the screen at Home, for Burning through your watchlist is easier than Cake! The Arrival of Netflix, the Inception of streaming, Amazon joining The Party, The Farewell of Blockbuster, The Post’s nearly The Past, The Wonders of The Future Somewhere Beyond The Hills of Reality— stuffed with so much competition Our Time didn’t have Room for Shomi, so that had to Get Out too. Grandma, Beginners, Youth, Mother!— It’s Easy-A-Peasy! Watching Paddington on Transit, Birdman on a Flight— even Nightcrawler beneath Moonlight at the Drive-in! There’s no Downsizing The Hunt to see Interstellar flicks, for the Endless Poetry’s Non-Stop, and Silence is Gone Girl. Tangled in so many Good Time’s It flew by Like Crazy, making everyone feel like You Were Never Really Here, putting a Spotlight on diversity, saying No to abuse, and it was About Time to say Goodbye To Language as Parasite wins Best Picture! Wild.

(Everybody Wants Some, Sorry We Missed You)

Poetry—

Night Is Short, Walk On Girl,
On The Milky Road,
As I Open My Eyes,
On The Beach At Night Alone,
The Lighthouse Sunset,
On Body And Soul,
The Other Side of Hope—

Don’t Think Twice,
Breathe—
It’s Only The End of The World…
Heaven Knows What The World of Tomorrow will bring.
Life. Love. Somewhere…
It’s Such A Beautiful Day.

—This Is The End.

A reminder of BEA’s previous list-toppers:

2010-2014: Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson)
2015: Mad Max Fury Road (George Miller)
2016: Arrival (Denis Villeneuve)
2017: Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig)
2018: The Favourite (Yorgos Lanthimos)
2019: Parasite (Bong Joon-Ho)

We’ll see how they do!
(You can click on those for the full lists).

SUBCATAGORIES:

10 Best Male Performances
&
10 Best Female Performances
&
Best Film Score

Which you may submit up to 10 each, but the score list will be the top 5.

The gist/ rules:

BEA composes a list of our 100 favourite films of the 2010s.

All lists will be PMed to me or posted in this thread, maxing out at 100. The final list will be 100 films. I'll be accepting lists of any denotation up to 100. The size of your list determines its weight. Films must be longer than 40 minutes. Films must have an international premiere date between January 1st 2010 and December 31st 2019. Don't throw in something stupid, and we're all good. No fighting.

Documentaries are allowed. Miniseries (i.e. Chernobyl) are not. I will not be accepting comedy specials either. Live concerts will be discouraged.

Lists will also be accepted in IMDb and Letterboxd format. Deadline will be May 16th.

Ineligible Releases:
Twin Peaks (2017)
Chernobyl (2019)
Planet Earth II (2016)
Over The Garden Wall (2014)
Watchmen (2019)
Horace & Pete (2016)
Big Little Lies
Undone (2019)
The Jinx (2015)
Any episode of Black Mirror.
Any TV show really, no matter how good.

Looking forward to this one!

Well, I definitely have a few going in the queue. Tallied. Smile Not going to lie, I thought you'd place Raw higher.

And my list isn't done just yet... I've ranked films first. I'm going to include documentaries, maybe 10-15 that I know will make the cut, but everything's so stuffed Brick wall. The Act of Killing and/or The Look of Silence will most likely be in the top 50.

As of now, here's the list:

1. La La Land
2. Coco
3. Moonrise Kingdom
4. Parasite
5. Her
6. Paddington 2
7. Roma
8. The Grand Budapest Hotel
9. Mommy
10. Blue Is The Warmest Colour
11. Under The Skin
12. Uncut Gems
13. Inside Out
14. A Separation
15. Carol
16. Marriage Story
17. Son of Saul
18. Paterson
19. The Lobster
20. You Were Never Really Here

Full 200: https://letterboxd.com/tepitome/list/th...cade-list/ (only counting the top 100 for the poll)

Hoping people can dig up a few recs.

Film Scores:

1. Mica Levi - Under The Skin
2. Cliff Martinez - Drive
3. Various - Moonrise Kingdom
4. Greenwood - Phantom Thread
5. Desplat - The Grand Budapest Hotel
6. Johannsson - Arrival
7. Justin Hurwitz - La La Land
8. Daniel Lopatin - Uncut Gems
9. Morricone - The Hateful Eight
10. Sanchez - Birdman

I want to add 50 more.

I’ll drop in a few recs. Not very obscure stuff or anything, most of yall have probably seen it, but it doesn’t often appear at those decade end lists and it should.

Shoplifters (2018)
Filth (2013)
To Rome With Love (2012)
Under The Skin (2013)
Locke (2013)
Cloud Atlas (2013)
Andhadhun (2018)

Love that you put The Florida Project at #1. I have it at #2. Also great you ranked Nightcrawler and Listen Up Philip so high.

Under the Skin will likely do quite well. Have seen it on some decade lists. Don't know how Shoplifters will fare in the poll, but it was #1 on my 2018 list.

All seriousness, it's on Applerill's list and the bottom 100 of my own. It's a blast. Bad Black's also pretty solid (it only became available recently, not sure if you've checked it out). I'd love everyone to give it a chance. Like... it's right there.

I really do love Who Killed Captain Alex. It's almost an accidental documentary about how to make a movie on a low-budget. It's not like other "so bad it's good" films, because you can actually tell that the people who were involved truly cared and had fun making the movie. It's also genuinely funny at times with the MST3K video joker doing crazy shit all the time.

Hey Applerill, I just looked at your list, and I could not believe what I found at number 7. I've seen EIT Live, and they even have some of my Jerrys. Very Happy

Also, no Best F(r)iends?

I've realized I'm pretty behind on the last decade compared to the 00's or 90s, but this is as good a time as any to catch up on some groovy smoothies I've missed, so that should be fun. Trust me, the final list will be hot, like Sriracha Hot.
