Just to remind you of the site where you can find a lot of the goodies of the John Peel Sessions:
https://davestrickson.blogspot.com/2020...sions.html

Now for something else. In 1989 there was a session by The Sundays before their first and classic album Reading, Writing and Arithmetics was released and this seems to have been a general repetition because the three tracks here are crisp and crystal clear and nearly exactly how they landed on the album:
1. I Won (0:07)
2. My Finest Hour (4:30)
3. Skin And Bones (7:42)
But Harriet Wheeler is a siren who can draw you in the water with her mesmerizing singing: top quality and classic tracks.

John Peel was clearly not really keen on the band so Motörhead did only one session in 1978 (he loved Hawkwind more). But what a great session it is again with a crystal clear sound which even does justice to their music.
1. Louie Louie (0:15)
2. Keep Us On The Road (3:38 )
3. Tear Ya Down (9:05)
4. I'll Be Your Sister (12:08 )

And then one of the John Peel loves that wasn't shared by everybody. Like most people I only know Happy Birthday but Peel seems to have had some kind of a knack for singer Clare Gogan. They did 4 Peel Sessions and I listened to two of them:
1980:
1. Beckoning Strings (0:38 )
2. Legionnaire (4:33)
3. Insects (8:20)
4. Dead Pop Stars (12:13)

and 1981:
1. Jeepster (1:08 )
2. A Day's Wait (4:18 )
3. Idols (9:16)
4. Midnight (12:18 )

The good (Beckoning Strings, Dead Pop Stars, Jeepster) is combined with the ugly (Legionnaire) but nevertheless maybe a cue to finding out more about their albums.

Pavement was one of the favorite bands of John Peel and rightly so. And they did 5 sessions for the man and I listened to all five of them:

The first one of 1992 is the second best of the 5 with a blistering version of Here:
1. Circa 1762 (0:07)
2. Kentucky Cocktail (3:32)
3. Secret Knowledge of Backroads (7:04)
4. Here (10:30)

Both 1992 sessions are also to be found on Luxe & Reduxe version of Slanted & Enchanted so I listened to that session on the album: not quite as good and the same goes for the 1994 and 1997 sessions. But even when they're sloppy Pavement is still good.

But the best session was the one of 1999 in honor of John Peel's 60th Birthday and this is about a greatest hits (and also longer than usual): the versions played here of all those great songs are excellent;
1. Spit On A Stranger (2:17)
2. The Hexx (5:41)
3. Unfair (11:16)
4. Father To The Sister Of A Thought (14:07)
5. Folk Jam (17:33)
6. Carrot Rope (22:22)
7. Shady Lane (26:46)
