One of my favorite albums for the merit of metal-pioneering.

That Rolling Stone quote was actually in reference to U2 wanting to make an album like The Bends.

Don't get what?

Anyway, LZ's debut has grown on me more and more over the years. Love the strong blues influence here. And Track 2 is sensational.

Although I prefer LZ when they try to go outside of the blues rock formula, this album is gold. Sure, they weren't the only hard rock band like they are sometimes portrayed, but no one had that crunchy heavy guitar tone Page had in 1969, it just sounds so rich and full. And Plant's voice here is sensational, his prime was really short (by the time IV was released he wasn't the same singer), but here he is at the height of his powers.
In my opinion much much better album than usually more widely praised II. Couple of sensational songs and some pretty good album track. Tracks 2 and 4 are obviously among the best ever, and I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the charming organ heavy Your Time Is Gonna Come. The only weaker songs are the blues heavy overlong You Shook Me and How Many More Times.
