Now that we've had a chance to revisit the best albums of 2019, it's time to wrap up our search for the top songs of the 2010's. Rules are the same as last time, with any songs released between 2015 and 2019 that aren't reissues being eligible. Songs that were released on an album before 2015 but released as a single after 2015 won't be eligible, to prevent folks from squeezing in songs that were also eligible in the last tournament here. Everyone can nominate 3 songs until we get to 64. Since 64 isn't divisible by 3 we'll probably go a bit over but I'll try to cut it off quickly after 64 so the play-ins are limited (and of course if the nominations dry up I'll give everyone a fourth pick but that didn't happen last time so I don't anticipate it happening this time).

Nominations:

David Bowie - Lazarus (BozoTyrannus)
St. Vincent - Los Ageless (BozoTyrannus)

Are we not going to have a 2019 best track tournament? Seems like it would make more sense for that to come first.

Is Radiohead's 2016 AMSP album version of True Love Waits eligible?

If so, nominating:
Radiohead - True Love Waits
Sufjan Stevens - Fourth of July
Night Beds - Velvet River

Edited list order to designate the lesser known, Velvet River by Night Beds, as my play-in choice.

I don't see any reason why not. It's not too uncommon for artists to write songs and then play them live before recording them for an album. In this case the song was being played for quite a while beforehand, but as far as I know Radiohead recorded that version specifically for the album so I'd say it's fine. I'd say previously unreleased archival that's released as part of a "digging through the vaults" type release wouldn't be eligible, but that's not what this is.

I hadn't considered that we had been doing yearly song tournaments as well. The thread NJ bumped over the weekend mentioned this tourney and the 2019 album tourney so I figured this was a good time to start this one. If we do a 2019 songs tourney there's going to be some overlap with this one, so I think the decision to make is whether we want to get the cream of the crop 2019 songs nominated for this tourney and then have the 2019 songs tourney focus on more under the radar songs, or do the 2019 tourney first and then possibly have some of those songs come back for this one. Personally I'd prefer to do this first and ensure people can nominate the 2019 songs they think are best of decade contenders without having to worry about repeats, but maybe repeats aren't that bad.

If anyone else would prefer we wrap up 2019 first before revisiting this tourney let us know in this thread. Otherwise I'll plan to continue this.

Even if we don't do a 2019 tournament first, it's very possible there could be some overlap with the 2018 tournament. I'm considering re-upping one of my nominees. I would appreciate clarification on whether that is discouraged and/or banned.

Another idea would be making this into a 2015-2017 tournament. Allows for going a little deeper into those years and ensures no overlap at all.

I don't really have a problem with repeat entries. My main concern was a song from 2019 doing well in this tourney and then popping up again in the 2019 tourney and becoming a predictable winner, but I guess that's an argument for doing 2019 first, which is the opposite of what I had argued.

I really don't have a preference here, I have no attachment to this version of the tourney outside of having volunteered to keep it going. I had planned on creating a poll after this tourney ended to pit Oblivion against the winner, and if we did a 2015-2017 tourney instead we could simply the winners of 2010-2014, 2015-2017, 2018, and 2019 all against each other. It's a little lopsided but might work out well in the end.

In lieu of starting a new thread with a poll, I'd appreciate input in this thread on whether people would prefer:

- A full 2015-2019 tourney and possibly a 2019 tourney at some date, before or after (please specify)
- A 2019 tourney + a 2015-2017 to fill in the gap of years we've missed

I'd be fine doing a 2019 tourney after this. There's little to no impact imo. Since this got started first, might as well do it.

But if it got cancelled/shelved because others had a strong opinion otherwise, I wouldn't care either.

We could do them simultaneously!
