Some of it is good music.

But this is really the start of their major... major... major decline in quality.

8. Explorers
9. Big Freeze
10. Save Me

Those tracks are near garbage to me.

Having said that I really dig (even if corny) the Panic Station beat and feel in the vocals. Madness easily has the best guitar solo in rock for some period of time... maybe 5 years? The whole apocalyptic/anarchistic/left-leaning side of things are either really fun/inspiring or shit and I'm not sure which still...

Really sad this band went from top of my list to bottom in a hurry. Up to Black Holes I think they were a really interesting band.

Muse is in this space right now where they have some decent experiments but most of them just don't work. Really inconsistent.

Yes it is inconsistent but I feel much bigger part of this album is hit rather than miss, and when it hits it is really good. The 1-2 combo of Supremacy and Madness is fantastic and probably the best opening they ever had. I don't like Panic Station that much, but I feel Survival, Follow Me and Animals are all pretty good and diverse songs. And I've always liked The 2nd Law.

Agreed, although they’re just “meh” to me, not exactly garbage. I think Muse’s experiments mostly worked up until Drones. That one was seriously inconsistent, while the latest one is pure trash.

Supremacy (one of their best songs), Follow Me, The 2nd Law: Isolated System, Madness and Panic Station, as well as probably Animals are really good songs. Never liked Survival as much, but it’s still decent.

Truth is, this was my first album of theirs I purchased on vinyl. It isn't bad, but it was the first album I had disappointment in of theirs and then it just kept getting worse.

What's cool is the vinyl has 4 sides and so I just skip side C (which is exactly those three songs mentioned) and it turns back into a decent album... hehe.

I do dig the beginning and the end and Animals' ending I like.
