Fair point lol. I as sort of out of the music hype bubble or what-have-you in 2019 and 2016, so I was not privy to the delays and mystery surrounding Ye and Life of Pablo, but I hear they both had some drama and delays and stuff attached to them.
Om another note the new Darkside is just a few days away. I am sure many of us are excited for that. _________________ -Ryan

Yeah Donda was supposed to come out like a year ago. It already had an album cover and leaked snippets and everything. It's looking promising again but it's certainly a strange rollout this time around for Ye. No social media controversies or public speaking and a full face mask anytime in public. It's looking to be another emotional album similar to 808s but I'm sure it'll sound much different. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels

Okay, now this could still be a big last minute fuck you, but its looking like Donda is coming to streaming platforms midnight tonight, which is exciting. I'm a big fan and I am feeling like this could easily be the album I listen to exclusively for 2 weeks. It could be a massive let down. But really of his albums, none have been massive disappointments. Jesus Is King even had a beauty and power at points that I loved.
also with darkside, I may listen to 2 albums. lol.
what other cool albums coming tonight/next few days?
The ones of major interest to me are:
Donda by Kanye West
Spiral by Darkside
Yellow by Emma-Jean Thackray sounds and looks interesting
and...that is about all that catches my eye as of now. AOTY isn't helpful with metal or more wild side of my tastes so I am not sure what major releases (if any) are coming out in that arena in the next 24-72 hours. _________________ -Ryan

Ever since Life of Pablo, I haven't been hyped about a Kanye release. Not saying I haven't enjoyed his music, it's just more of a "I'll believe it when I see it" type of thing since there always seem to be inevitable delays and/or issues with the album rollout.
I'm always remind of this:

which was tweeted less than 24 hours after the album released... (granted the "fixed" version which was updated to streaming platforms 3 days later WAS better, but still) _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

A Beginner's Mind by Sufjan Stevens &am... Augustine
A new seemingly traditional Sufjan Project in just a year after his previous?!!! More of a return to form but I'm glad he did some experimenting before comming back to home (at least that's what it seems like). |
Just got on this now. Gorgeous singles. Looking forward to the full project. Apart from the sadly-not-on-an-album My Rajneesh, I I've ignored the last whoknowshowmanywhoknowswhatreleases from Sufjan as of late. This looks back to form.

What have you heard, if anything, between Carrie & Lowell and My Rajneesh? He's released a lot of great stuff in the past five years. _________________ Add me on RYM

Skipped that series of albums with the swirls on the cover, not sure how many there are
Any of them worth listening to?
Thought Aporia was pretty meh and I never made it through The Ascension (think I've heard 3 songs off of it, might give it another go).
My Rajneesh gets a big thumbs up though.
EDIT: Added 'skipped'.

Couldn't tell you, because I've skipped all of those swirls as well
In terms of gems from the past five years of Sufjan:
- Carrie & Lowell Live is a phenomenal reinterpretation that more or less equals the original and sounds quite distinct. 4.5/5
- The Greatest Gift Mixtape, Planetarium, The Ascension, and Tonya Harding (a single) are all great records. 4/5
- Last but not least, I consider the three songs from Call Me By Your Name, collected on Mystery Of Love (EP), to be the apex of his career. 5/5 _________________ Add me on RYM

My Rajneesh might be the best thing Sufjan has done since Illinois IMO, but yeah, new project should be amazing

Oh geez, forgot about that.
Yeah, that was a lovely handful of songs. Title track is one of his best. Oscar nominee Sufjan Stevens!
And the live version of Carrie & Lowell was fantastic. Think I've only given it one listen, but I remember it feeling like a strong rival to the studio version. (Wasn't counting that either).
Note: I just realized I lacked a distinction in my response. It should be phrased in such a way stating I haven't heard that series of albums with the swirls. Hope that was clear.
