Dang, that game was... not invigorating. So it's interesting how the stanley cup is favored, common thought seems to say that Lightning's attack will be too much for the keepaway-friendly Habs, but I donno- Montreal is savvy and I think they may find a way to trap the Lighntning when needed. I donno should be a fun series, only guarantee is that There Will Be Riots in quebec regardless of who wins or loses.

Yeah last night's game was... not exciting. I guess it was good if you were a Tampa fan but meh, that could've been a more interesting game 7.

I honestly think Tampa might pull off the repeat. I guess the last time we had a repeat was 2016-17 with the Penguins. And the last time a Canadian team won was 1993 (also the Habs), which capped off a few decades of Canadian domination.

Should be a decent series, my money's on Tampa but I'm rooting for Montreal.

Rooting for them though. Great couple of games against Vegas and Winnipeg.

I'm torn. I actually like this Canadiens team...

...but I'm not looking forward to more fodder for the smug Mtl fans ("24 Stanley Cups, amirite"). Every city in Canada has them.

TB in 6. I like the idea of a mini-dynasty.

No one saw this coming; Montreal in the Final. Carey Price has been their Star. Montreal needs to step up & start scoring in order to beat the defending Champions. Tampa has such a powerful offence & I hope it will be a close exciting series.

I would ask "Where's the Canadian Pride?!!!"... but I take it Oilers fans don't exactly root for the Flames when they're on a stanley cup run

Also, I found this funny people still care about the goings-on of one Celene Dion

We've got pride in Canada however some have provincial attitudes. You won't find many supporters of the Habs in Alberta.

It's nothing to do with 'provincial attitudes'. That's a bit of a sweeping generalization. If the Leafs had advanced, I would have been rooting for them. I would love to see Toronto go crazy with a Leafs championship - they've been long suffering.

I view Canadiens fans in the same boat as Celtics fans in basketball, Liverpool fans in soccer, and Yankees fans in baseball. There's a certain smugness with some of them, as they view their franchise as superior due to past glories.

...and there's loads of Leafs and Habs fans out here. Older generations in Western Canada had to pick between the Leafs and the Habs, as there were no NHL teams here until the 1970s. Also, we have loads of people who have moved here from elsewhere in Canada. I'd suggest that Flames or Oilers games have more Leafs or Canadiens fans in attendance when they play them than anywhere besides the ACC or Forum.

Yeah I still don't really have a grasp of the nuances of hockey fandom yet, though I would figure the other reason Montreal would be controversial because of, cough, politics surronding anglo and francophone Canada, but I guess that's a loaded topic for another thread (I mean at least they aren't the Blackhawks). Though Juno I would expect you'd want the Flames 2004 cup loss avenged, n'est dit pas Wink

Edit: Merde, that game 1 was brutal

Whew. Habs live to see another day. Time to pull off another Maple Leafs first round.
