How would you rate the other Daniel Craig Bond films? I liked Casino Royale but was supremely let down by Quantum of Solace (which was a fucking mess) as well as Skyfall and Spectre (which were slightly better). My partner is a huge Bond fan so I'm sure I'll see it either way, but I'm just curious how it compares.

Casino Royale is my favourite film of the series, one of my all-time top 25 films, and a resounding 10/10.

Quantum of Solace has more or less had a "two steps up, one step down" slow rise from the bottom to the lower-middle of my ranking, unfortunately it has taken a significant step down this time and I would give it a 5/10, because Craig is exceptional in it but the story is an absolute mess and the filmmaking is often a disaster.

Skyfall is one I would give the same 9.5/10 to, but I would rank it about fifth out of the franchise. There's a possibility No Time to Die will go up to a 10 on my second and third viewings next week; I would say there isn't any chance at all for Skyfall to ever be a 10 in my books, and it might even slip back down to an even 9 like it was before.

SPECTRE is one of the worst ones. I have it fourth from the bottom above Diamonds Are Forever, Die Another Day, and The Man with the Golden Gun. Those bottom three are awful, but SPECTRE is still significantly bad. 3/10.

Appreciate the breakdown! I think I rank QoS slightly worse than Spectre, but agreed that they're leagues below Skyfall and Casino Royale. I should be seeing No Time to Die this weekend, looking forward to it!

I have sort of similar feelings about the Daniel Craig Bond films. Casino Royale is my second-favorite Bond film behind Goldfinger, and Skyfall is my fourth-favorite.

I do still like Spectre and Quantum of Solace. They've definitely got their problems, but I think they're solid overall movies (and certainly within the context of the Bond franchise as a whole, better than most other Bond films)

I’m seeing No Time To Die on Saturday with my momma. Maybe I should watch Casino Royale and/or Skyfall to prep?

I just watched "Malignant" last night, because it was about to leave HBO Max, and now I have to go see this in a movie theater. I can't imagine the reactions this is getting, because I imagine that this is not what people are expecting from the trailer or James Wan's previous films.

As I believe I've stated before, if you've never gone through the Google reviews of movies, then I highly suggest it. Lots of one stars from the general audience for this one.

Apparently this guy is a huge fan of horror.

"I dont know what the hell everyone else was smokin cuz I sure needed it I guess for this flick... For real, we all have our own opinion on what we thought of it but man this was a painful watch. I'm a huge fan of horror and James wan so its not like I'm some come along etc etc...i dont wanna be a hater and rattle off to much info so it makes it hard to get my point across but seriously I saw posts saying "scariest movie of 2021"..sure I guess since there hasnt really been much in main stream horror this year. Nothing about this movie had a jump/scary/chill up the spine kinda vibe. I felt myself checking the time left cuz I wanted to get over it and go rewatch Kong vs Godzilla...lol. Way happy I didn't have to pay theater prices for this... Sum it up this movie reminds me of a indie or college project with big screen budget. Fingers crossed ANTLER will finally come out this year and save me from my horror needs"

Another horror film fan.

"If you are a TRUE horror film fan who loves the suspense and thrill of a really good scare…this is NOT for you. My sister came bouncing into my room and told me we have to watch this new horror film that just came out this year. Of course we were excited, we are horror film nerds and love the classics and the new stuff. And right off the bat we just knew it was gonna be a bad one strictly from the acting alone. I felt like this movie should be labeled as “comedy with a slightly suspenseful tone here and there”. Nothing made sense until the last 25 minutes, and the whole thing just dragged on for 2 hours. We found ourselves laughing out loud at most everything, the awkwardly placed dramatic music that didn’t fit the vibe of the room, the weird zoom in on everyone, for some reason everyone was like out of breath the whole time and gasping, the mother who had absolutely no purpose other than falling from the ceiling, and the annoying sister who kept stroking Emily’s hair. Overall, absolutely not impressed and makes me never want to watch a Wan film again.

P.s. I’ve literally never written a google review before, but I felt THIS needed to be addressed for those who do not want to waste their time. Trust me honey, go watch The Conjuring or something instead."

I wasn't expecting to see George Melies and Sharknado in the same review.

"The premise/plot was all over the place, confusing and completely boring. I got more thrills and excitement in the numerous mini breaks I took to play the Merge Cube phone app. I only have this app to pass the time with utter boredom and spent over 75% of the movie having to take a break from the sheer stupidity of this “film”. I have an unhealthy obsession with Georges Melies films and this Malignant “film” is not only a sleeper, but not even an actual horror, science fiction or thriller…..it appears production started mid pandemic, then stopped and then was rushed to put into theaters and streaming services to make a quick buck to cover the overuse of CGI, terrible acting, lame plot and lackluster cast. Don’t waste your money even buying this in the $3 sale bin at Wal-Mart. It would have been a complete waste for the film producers to send this straight to DVD. This ranks lower than an entire garden full of rotted tomatoes. I thought the Sharknado series was a grotesque example as a comedy horror film but Malignant has proven to me films can actually get a lot worse than anyone can ever imagine."

Any fan of horror movies know that "being scary" is only part of the horror genre. This movie is not scary. Far from it. What this movie is, is consistently entertaining from start to finish. ESPECIALLY, if you have some horror film literacy. This movie almost plagiarizes one of the classics of schlock, "Basket Case", and has more than it's fair share of other homages in many scenes throughout the film. A lot of references to Giallo is what people seem to be recognizing, but it also just felt like many of the dozens of midnight movies made in the early 80s. Purely and truly from that era, but with the sheen and production of a modern day 40 million budget movie. Which makes the whole affair seem even more bizarre. The question of intention has been brought up, but I don't really care. Intentional or not, all of these ridiculous elements in the same movie amounts to stupid fun. In fact, I haven't seen something so beautifully stupid in a long time, and I thank James Wan for that.

10/10.

I thought it was excellent. Plot was slightly less convoluted than most of the other Craig Bond movies, and the payoff was excellent. I really enjoyed the classic Bond things in the movie (e.g. the DB5 with gadgets as seen in the trailers) while still changing the formula a bit.

Only complaints: 1. Ana de Armas was great and really stole the scenes she was in, would've liked to see more of her. 2. Academy Award be damned, there's nothing Rami Malek has done that makes me think he's a good actor. I don't think he was a good choice for that role (especially considering his age relative to others in the movie, seemed odd).

What's up Rocka? Cool to see you break your silence, guess I'll break mine. I watched Malignant last night. Beautifully stupid, that's an accurate way to describe it. The plot, and the logic thereof, went completely off the rails in the last 30 minutes. But sure, it kept things entertaining at least. For someone who isn't a big horror fan, it was okay to me for one watch, but I can see why horror buffs are so divided on this one.

2021 has been a bad movie year from what I've seen. It's been so bad, it's making 2020 look good. But I will say this, The Card Counter is by far the best thing I've seen this year.

Yeah, I mean... pretty close to my thoughts. I could throw a few more titles up there though. There's been a decent bunch. But jeez... French Dispatch aside, I'm not too hyped for the Fall season. I hope The Power of The Dog doesn't end up being the 'big' film this year. It's getting raves everywhere, but it only landed good/okay-ish to me. Tapped out at a 7/10, and that was mainly because of the performances and score.

My watchlist for 2021 is primarily the Cannes and Venice line-ups at this point. The award season is looking...

EDIT: Oh, Macbeth is looking cool too.
