I've already expressed my thoughts on mixtapes during the first round of the tournament, so I guess there's no point in repeating myself. I never got them and most likely never will. However, I have to say I found it somewhat ok, especially in comparison to most similar tapes I've listened to, I would almost call it enjoyable - or at least as close as it's ever gonna get- but still would be rather difficult to compare it with a "proper" album.
To sum it up, undeniably great but undeniably not for me.

This confuses me. There's so much diversity in mixtapes, and the border between mixtapes and albums is so porous. Are you talking about the specific type of mixtape with DJ tags and rapping over other people's beats? Or any project that the artist considers a mixtape? The 2016 team this round is all mixtapes, but they're quite different from Dedication 2 on the opposing 2006 team.

Another close match-up. I think Ab-Soul has the best album here with a slightly higher 8.5 than Clipse's because I think it has the higher high's, it just has some skips too that keep it from a 9/10. Terrorist Threats, Illuminate, and The Book Of Soul are among the best in the TDE discography. Habits & Contradictions might be my favorite Q album from start to finish, but its still the worst album here as Z-Ro has the better album on the 05 team. Singles wise, Stay Fly is the standout as a timeless southern rap anthem. The Death Grips track is meh for me but Meek Mill's energy on Dreams and Nightmares is incredible and another anthemic track, but its been rather forgettable over the years. Gonna go with 2005 here.

2005

We Got It 4 Cheap, Vol. 2 - 8.5/10
Let the Truth Be Told - 8/10
The Corner - 7.5/10
Stay Fly - 10/10

2012

Control System - 8.5/10
Habits & Contradictions - 7.5/10
I've Seen Footage - 6/10
Dreams and Nightmares - 7.5/10

Geez these are close for me. Still figuring it out. Every time I think I'm leaning one way I end up thinking I'm leaning the other.

Might need to give Control System a revisit.

I don't want to jinx it, but I'm so glad we avoided a five page pepper-bomb fight over Death Grips

Anyways this is pretty easily '05 as there is nothing that isn't really high quality, even if oddly I don't know how I feel about Clipse as an album or simply a collection of mostly excellent tracks, but 2012 is actually really good too (yes even DG was a fine listen here) and made me hesitate for a bit, but unfortunately it's up against one of the best top-to-bottom teams this round that would be hard to beat with anything.

I've not yet heard We Got It For Cheap, but I'd take Z-Ro over both 2012 albums. The singles: I've Seen Footage >> The Corner > The Fly > Meek Mill. Not too crazy about any of them except I've Seen Footage, it's the only one I really like. Both 2005 singles are nice though. If the mixtape isn't bad, it's gonna be a vote for 2005. It's interesting that both Control System and Habits & Contradictions have the same problems. Maybe not unexpected since there's a clear connection, but certainly something to note. The production is top notch, but the rapping leaves a lot to be desired. Both are very long, have a decent amount of filler and the highlights don't outweigh the sheer amount of meh material. I prefer Control System although Hands on the Wheel is easily the best song off of either. And while I don't really like either in an album format, there's a handful of fun tracks which will be a great fit for some of my playlists. Overall a disappointing matchup for me, nothing I love in the albums department (so far) while the singles are decent. I did like the chemistry of 2012 team a lot (as already mentioned by kokkinos).

I love this 2012 team. Probably my 3rd favourite team this round after my own and the team I'm facing in my match up. Especially loved both singles but also both albums and their chemistry musically hit my hip hop sweet spot.
I liked the other team too just not as much. Great match up.

Surprised this isn't closer. I'm one of the (2) people who voted 2012.

Honestly, this was the easiest call to make for me. Two of my all-timers at their peak in the album noms, plus a Three 6 masterpiece in the singles. There are numerous combinations of 2012 releases that could've got my vote (especially if they'd contained Roc Marci, Bronson, 'My Hoes They Do Drugs'), but none of those combinations involved Death Grips or Ab-Soul.
