Here's mine, even though I'm not deep into his discography (12 listened).

60s: Buffalo Springfield ('67 reissue of the self-titled)
70s: Chrome Dreams (After The Gold Rush if it has to be official)
80s: haven't heard any yet
90s: Harvest Moon
00s: Live At Massey Hall 1971 (sort of cheating I know)
10s: haven't heard any yet

Oh yeah Buffalo Springfield is quite good!
Honestly I should go with Freedom for 80s cuz it's really good and rockin. Trans is not for everyone haha. I'd start with Freedom or Hawks from the 80s. Early 2000s is good but honestly some of his least exciting work. I think his 2010s albums are much better. I'd start with Psychedelic Pill even though I prefer Le Noise a little bit more. Both quite different but feel like more people would suggest Pill. Other albums are good too but haven't listened to Colorado yet.

Freedom from '89 & Ragged Glory(w/Crazy Horse) from '90 are both fantastic & his last great studio releases. I'm surprised some of you have never listened to them. Saw Neil's solo Trans tour which was good except for the Trans songs. 80's sucked for Neil except for Freedom.

60s: Everybody Knows...
70s: After the Gold Rush
80s: haven't heard a lot from this decade
90s: Harvest Moon
00s: Live at Massey Hall 1971
10s: Hitchhiker

This was surprisingly easy considering that Young is one of my favourite songwriters. Also if y'all don't think 2010s have anything worthwhile, try Hitchhiker and Psychedelic Pill.

Everybody Knows This Is Now...
70s - ties with Gold rush, harvest, beach, night, zuma.
80s only listened to Freedom
90s ties with ragged glory, harvest moon (less a fan of mirror ball)
00s living with war
10s only really listened to hitchhiker
20s only really listened to homegrown

but damn - 7 decades worth of music...

Reminds me of a thought I had earlier that I'm surprised anyone listens to Paul McCartney's music anymore - 11 million listeners in Spotify and like 2000 ratings on RYM for his 2020 release. Dude is about the same age.

Pill is really good, I actually prefer his 2010s over 2000s. Still need to listen to Hitchhiker. My full Neil Young ranking is all over the place lol. People stay away from 80s/different stuff it seems but I love Landing on Water and Trans haha probably cuz I love synth as well. And just weird music in general.
