The Battle of Evermore was possibly the first rock song that I really truly loved. 35ish years before rappers like MF Doom normalized nerdcore, Led Zep had an absolute soulcrusher which was entirely based on Lord of the Rings references. I suppose middle-school me was a bit of a nerd and heard music without listening to it, but my parents hooked me onto Led Zeppelin by essentially explaining to me that nerds could still be cool. ...Or something like that. It was a while ago, and I was young. Regardless, this has been one of my favorite albums since I heard it for the first time. Every. single. song. is a masterpiece. And in my opinion it well deserves its place in the top 100 (undecided if it deserves top 10 or even top 20, but it really is the masterpiece of one of the biggest rock bands of all time).
