My favorite Bowie album and one of the best rock albums ever. Gets the credit it deserves.

Absolutely. There's at least 3 songs here I'd consider my all time faves, I could probably name only a dozen or so albums where that's the case.

This album absolutely changed the way I look at music. I was about 20 when I found it. It's the first album that really made me look at the context as a whole, rather than the sum of it's parts. Opening with five years, is just an incredible introduction. But, then the way the albums ebbs and flows, highs and lows. all the way to the somber closing of rock & roll suicide. It honestly feels like a movie.

not to say that there weren't albums I had before this that I loved top to bottom. or even concept albums like darkside of the moon or the wall (which I was into way before I heard this). But even with those, somehow, with those, it still felt like I was waiting for the highlights and losing attention in between. but here, it just seems so cohesive. so much larger as a whole.. 'Moonage daydream' somehow amplified by being on the heals of 'soul love'. lady stardust, somehow more poetic by being on the heals of 'it ain't easy'.

not to say that plenty of other albums, including ones named above, don't share those same traits or qualities. Just saying that this album opened my mind to that larger concept.

Also, on another note: Do you think Bowie intentionally has Starman share that piece of melody with Somewhere over the rainbow? I think brilliant if intentional. not even enough to be considered infringement, just enough to trigger something in the listeners brain.
