Mediocre-average pop-rock. Not 4 me really.

It's interesting to see how this has fallen from the top 100 in the past 8 years since I joined BEA. Not saying I disagree, but this is one of my favorite albums. Muse was THE band that really drew my attention during the prime years of my life where I developed a love for music (for me that was high school).

"Butterflies and Hurricanes" has my favorite piano solo in rock music. "Time Is Running Out" is an absolute banger. "Apocalypse Please" threads hammering on the piano with delicately performing at Matt Bellamy's best. "Sing for Absolution" and "Falling Away with You" are devastatingly beautiful. "Stockholm Syndrome" is one of Muse's heaviest tracks. And "Hysteria"... oh boy Hysteria... perhaps the best bass lick ever. I mean that. I love funk licks, but Hysteria, man, that's justs next level.

The rest though is a bit meh. This isn't my favorite Muse album, though the highs might be higher than other Muse albums. But the lows on Origin of Symmetry and Black Holes & Revelations are much better than the lows here.

And on top of all that, it's one of my all-time favorite album covers.

Much like Lucille Bluth, I care for all my music equally: but I don't care for Muse. I mean, they're okay. I actually think Origins of Symmetry is a solid album. I just find their gestures towards grandeur annoying, and their politics both vague and bluntly expressed. It's a shame - I think they're great musicians, but the overall presentation is just too much for me. Including on this album, although there's some good tracks here: Stockholm Syndrome and Hysteria, especially, are bangers.

Very nicely put. Even though my love for Muse has somewhat vaned over the years, I still enjoy revisiting them from time to time. I also agree with the part about the highs on this album being extremely high - more so than on any other album of theirs. Those songs you have mentioned are nothing short of monumental and a true test of their greatness and skill.
I think the term banger is extremely overused, but some of the songs here really deserve such a description. My personal favourite would have to be Hysteria, such an amazingly energetic and powerful, and the guitar solo part never fails to put in a great mood, short as it is.
