This is probably the album I've listened to the most this year. If you're not familiar with Zevon's work this is the album I'd recommend the most highly. I'd argue that his songwriting was more impressive on the album prior to this, but Excitable Boy is more fun. The hooky title track and Lawyers, Guns and Money are among my favorite songs of all time. Obviously Werewolves of London is the most famous track on it and the most recognizable song in Zevon's discography. The song is obviously a hit, and I enjoy it, but I think it was unfairly dismissed as a novelty song and it led to people disregarding some of his great work that came after it.

I think I might prefer his self-titled record that came a few years before this, but this album is awesome too! I was really into it when I was a kid, in that typical way of not realising how dark the lyrics were and just liking the melodies. Still think it's really solid and now understanding the stories being told on the album, it's if anything an even stronger album. Zevon is a really underrated songwriter. Check out his S/T record, too. Fantastic songwriting on both! _________________ Top 40 Greatest Music Albums by indieshins

A near-perfect record. Just really great, catchy, wistfully cynical pop songs. Imagine if Abba were into speed and banditry. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
