For me it’s TPAB, Madvillainy, and Tool’s Lateralus making up my top 3. I’ve been making it a point, however, to take in more and more new records and I think 2021 offered a few albums that will be ranking among those records in due time. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

The first thing that popped into my head was Supreme Clientele, so let’s go with that. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Origin Of Symmetry by Muse
This is still up there, along with Black Holes and Revelations. I know Muse don't really get loved in most critic's circles, but damn do still I love this trio that I grew up listening to.
For jazz, my top album is Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Uprising by Miles Mosley but I think Nubya Garcia's album last year or even the Pharoah Sanders/Floating Points/London Symphony Orchestra album might bump that out of first. Uprising is more like jazz fusion or jazz pop anyway. Promises would probably also be my favorite classical album I guess, at least as far as new compositions go. New recordings of old compositions has to go to Mariss Jansons and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's renditions of either Dvořák's 9th Symphony or Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. I believe they're both on Youtube, Jansons would have been an incredible conductor to see live; I wish I had been able to see him prior to his death.
Most of my other genre picks are going to be a little basic: To Pimp a Butterfly for hip hop/rap, Golden Hour for country, Dopethrone or Royal Blood for metal. Don't know if I could confidently declare a favorite blues, folk, or R&B album, and any other major genre I'm probably just blanking on right now. I guess Hamilton for musical/soundtrack. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

That’s a tough question. The turn of the century found me at a tender age, so most albums that influenced my childhood/adolescence came out during that time. If I had to pick only one, I’d say the album that has affected me the most is The College Dropout by Kanye West. Other records that meant a lot to me while I was growing up would be Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys, Original Pirate Material by The Streets, Parachutes by Coldplay and Is This It by The Strokes. I don’t come back to them that often, but they’ll always be special and it’s gonna be hard for any new release to dethrone them. And it’s funny how all of them are debut albums. _________________ Bob Dylan
