That opening four-song run is utterly impeccable. Gets spottier after that, and I don’t think the overt jazz nods are as organic as when they try to tie those influences in more subtly, but yeah it’s a brilliant record by a band operating very near the peak of their powers. There were just so few missteps, from ‘72 through to the first Fagen record. Probably top three Dan for me. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
