By saying that, you basically added credibility to my argument.
And applying your statement to The River made much more sense. _________________ My Top 100 :

Edit: Oh, I get it now. You were applying circular reasoning

lets all agree to disagree!
At this period in time, whatever springsteen touched, it turned to gold.
I am bias- i love bruce springsteen and especially his work around 1975- 1985.
"Darkness on the edge of town" doesn't have enough positive superlatives describing this brilliant piece of work. But, from this album, you learn that springsteen can
play a mean guitar. the energy is off the charts. and his guitar work is incredible.
i must admit, because "born in the usa" was so mammoth, i never believed it was outstanding, just because he became mainstream.
in the last several years, i have done a complete 180 and can firmly state that this album is incredible.
springsteens songwriting is in top form on this album. His lyrics are perfect .
"My hometown"- if feel like hes describing where i grew up! Brillant!!
("downtown train"- i had a job, i had a girl, had something going mister in this world. i got laid off at the lumber yard)- cant we all relate to this. he describes life in usa. im in canada . but i know what hes talking about.
I'm on fire- its kinda slow and dark. but it adds to the album, becuse he changes the tempo, no fast guitars or music, his voice is highlighted.
"No surrender"- favourite song on the album. "well we busted out of class. had to get away from those fools. we learned more from a 3 minute record than we ever learned in school". PURE MAJIC. i dont know about you, but thats how i felt going for a indoctrination of gov't propaganda in a system described as a learning environment.
if there is a weak link - it may be " born in the usa"
Rock was dying.
at the time, disco and electronic organs( OMD, depeche mode, new order, bee gees) were becoming mainstream .
Springsteen delivers and this album, for me is phenomenal.

You don’t often see that many comments in the album of the day post but this choice has clearly divided opinion.
I fall firmly into the love it category. Yes, because born in the USA was so huge the album tended to get overlooked as the great album that it is.
The title track is a great protest song. If you don’t believe me check out the acoustic version on the tracks box set. You’ll get a whole new perspective on the song.
The album is packed with great songwriting and musicianship. A work of art which has fostered discussion and isn’t that what art is supposed to do.

One of my all time favourite albums
My Hometown is my favourite track by The Boss but he has so many great tracks.
I enjoyed the movie Blinded By The Light, about a young Springsteen fan. It used a couple of songs from this album to good effect.
