My favourite era of music is from 1965-1969. I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite least known tracks from some of the more obscure albums/artists of this period. As much as I love the Nuggets compilation, I prefer the far more interesting artists below. These tracks deserve a wider audience. If folks can recommend other obscure tracks from the era, it would be great to share. Anyway, enjoy:

The Animals-We Gotta Get Out of This Place-1965

Link

The Beatles-Rain-1966

Link

James Brown-Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud-1968

Link

The Drifters-On Broadway-1963

Link

Grateful Dead-Dark Star-1968

Link

Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra-Some Velvet Morning-1967

Link

The Jimi Hendrix Experience-Crosstown Traffic-1968

Link

Henry Mancini-Moon River-1961

Link

The Rolling Stones-Let's Spend the Night Together-1967

One of my favorite sixties bands is a proto-metal cover band named Vanilla Fudge. They're best known for their ten-minute cover of "Eleanor Rigby", which is really awesome.

Also gotta love their cover of "Ticket to Ride", especially the Bonham-esque drumming.

Pierre Henry is awesome. Don't know if he's that obscure, but when first list is filled with well known artists anyway, I guess he's counting.

Man, I've been trying to track down Caravan's debut for a while now (I'm a huge fan of Grey and Pink), but I can't find it anywhere for a good price. Darn.

As for Cromagnon, those guys really annoy me. They're just a bunch of rambunctious noise-making perverts who don't know what real metal is. Oh well.
