1. CD player - because I'm biased
2. Speakers - as in the big ones that attach to the CD player
3. Here is the hard part...
I'll choose 2 albums which are extremelly acclaimed and are likely to go down a treat with a lot of people. Those will be
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon CD
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band CD
Those two have affected a lot of people's lives so if they can do it to any more that is only a good thing. Those albums old, like really really old though. What year is this 2011? Lets find something more recent:
Adele - 21 CD She's a good singer. Lots of people liked it. Good enough
Next... two more choices... I'll go for personal albums which I liked.
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go CD
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside CD
Altogether I think that will be under 3 hours:
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon CD
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band CD
Adele - 21 CD
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go CD
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside CD |
Wrong. It will be around 3 hours and a half. |
In that case remove Adele

I'm toying around with these albums, trying to decide which album goes and which stays:
Exile on Main St.
Rubber Soul
Highway 61 Revisited
A Love Supreme
Are You Experienced
Ramones
Graceland
"Graceland" may change to "Thriller". All I know is that at least one '80s album will make an appearance.
Currently, this has the total of around 5 hours.

Nah, ya got it wrong. Funeral's the popular one, and Abbey Road's the good one.

CD player with speakers (a proper set-up)
1- St Germain-Tourist
2- Ian Matthews-If you saw through my eyes
3- Suede-Dog man star (skip We are the pigs)
Work your way up with Manchester Orchestra,Spirit,Doors and finish with the Allman brothers band
if the reaction is not satisfactory after the first notes of Ian Matthews go for classic in that case:
Gershwin-Rhapsody in Blue
Mussorgsky-Pictures at an Exhibition (NOT the famous live album from ELP but the classic performance)
Several piano concerts from Beethoven and Mahler
NEVER go for I-pod nothing beats the pure stereo sound of vinyl or CD
no matter what docking station you use you'll always miss the warmth of analog

andy_hunter wrote: | 1) An iPod just so they can get comfortable wherever.
2) Big massive headphones that keep other sound out and make your ears fell nice and warm when you're wearing them.
3) The albums, I tried to pick albums with a lot of diversity for obvious reasons
Abbey Road - The Beatles
Why,
It's so iconic there's no way you can ignore it
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Why,
To understand how music can be emotional
Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesounds
Why,
To understand how music makes you want to dance and it's kind of sexy
I really enjoyed doing that |
This is better than any answer I could give. I'll just add, those big ass headphones: Senheisser Hd 800

Cripes...
1. A CD Player. iPods are convenient but the sound quality is suspect. Vinyl is hard to stick in the post and wrap properly. Plus CDs fit in your pocket... very handy.
2. Sennheiser HD448s. Bloody love 'em, now they've bedded in.
3. So they've never heard ANY music before... hmm...
To get them a CD with just one artist on is ridiculous. What if they hate your choices (as eclectic as you're trying to be) - you've lost the battle. No, they need as much exposure to as many genres as 3 hours allows. I remember when I was 8 getting a compilation called "The Hits Tape" with tracks from 1984 on - everything from Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jnr to Apollo 9 by Adam Ant, with disco, soul and pop to boot. I loved it.
To this end, and bearing in mind the musical snobs amongst us (me included) there is only one conceivable option:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rt25-Years-Roug...-2-catcorr
POSSIBLY THE BEST COMPILATION... EVER! If you don't find at least one track you adore then you don't like music. Check out the tracklisting! _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing
