So I am having this thing on New Years with lots of people coming and I need music that everyone from 15 - 50 can enjoy
Help
Right now I just have a bunch of classics
Queen, Talking Heads, Nirvana, The Beatles etc
And some later stuff, Strokes, Avalanches Cut Copy etc
It doesn't need to be good Bonus points if it is though
So yeah suggest away, thank you

you should put on jazz radio; people either usually like it or they don't know about it and, because there's this view that jazz is culturally sophisticated, will say nothing. This is considering you don't have a dance floor.

Jazz is pretty sophisticated music for a New Year's party but can also be considered a bit stuffy, so I guess that depends on what kind of party you want. If you go down the jazz route it would probably be a good idea to stay clear of the avant-garde stuff.
Another alternative if you want the music to create a backdrop, unless that has already been done to death in your grouping of friends, is to run something Buddha Bar-like (EDIT: Which could start out one way and then morph into more dancey rhythms).

Thriller, Paul's Boutique, Sign O' the Times (if you don't hate Prince that much), Saturday Night Fever and Exile on Main St. are some good albums for parties. You could play some of the other albums by these artists too, or just some songs from these albums.
I'm afraid I can't give you much more than the classics. The Strokes are pretty good too, though.
