So one of my goals of 2019 was to go record shopping overseas. Expected to find a plethora of uncharted interesting shops on the Costa Del Sol on my travels but I stumbled upon nothing but a well-stocked but ultimately pretty dull Spanish version of John Menzies (which will mean nothing to those outside the UK under a certain age). So instead I spent my days lying by the pool and ordered loads of stuff, mostly from Brighton-based reissue label Mr. Bongo to feast on when I got back to Blighty. Evidence:
Most of these were bought on a whim after sampling a couple of tracks on YouTube whilst my son was snorkelling. The Blo LP is currently spinning and it’s mighty fine.
Also note Ze Roberto’s Lotus 72D, which I first heard via Bruno and absolutely adore. One of my all-time favourite Plug discoveries.
Also picked up a couple of 2019 LPs - got that French Vanilla LP Craola likes and the follow-up LP to the roots instrumental album that I picked for the 2018 tournament. Will get me through the rainy evenings now
my suntan’s already fading away. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing

Popped to the Twickenham Record Fair earlier - picked up:
Best Before 1984 by Crass
Original from the rockabilly chap who was selling all his stuff 1/2 price
And 3 jazz represses for £7 each... none of which I've ever heard, but figured if I didn't like them I could just as easily just sell them on for what I paid for them:
Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus
Albert Ayler In Greenwich Village by Albert Ayler
On This Night by Archie Shepp
Best snag of the day was waiting for me when I got home. I picked up a copy of Record Collector at Gatwick Airport a couple of weeks back to read whilst on hols in Spain. Amazingly it's the first one I've ever bought. Anyway, they have a load of classifieds at the back and after about a week of having said magazine in my hand luggage I spied someone was selling this - an original UK Philips, no less - for £15. Called him from the Costa Del Sol on the off-chance no-one else had spied it. Unfortunately they had... but they hadn't paid, so he let me have it. Nice - and after recent acquisitions of UK originals of 2 and 4 that's a nice little run completed (I had 1 for a while too, but it cost me 50p and was scratched to buggery, so I sold it on):

Winelight by Grover Washington, Jr.
By chance and not choice, my first vinyl album is smooth jazz
So far it's actually pretty good though
P.S. I have a question about the turntable in my diary if anyone would be so kind as to answer. _________________ Add me on RYM
