It hasn't been chosen, I think. I happen to disagree with this choice, because, IMHO:
1. The Beatles never released a BAD album, exactly. Maybe something not up to their usual standards (Yellow Submarine), but certainly no bad album.
2. Let It Be, I happen to think, is a brilliant album, despite all that......stuff which happened to it.In fact, I even like those little "goofy" bits in between. |
Agree on everything you said there. I also love the orchestral overdubs by Phil Spector on Let It Be, though I haven't heard the naked version. Let It Be is a great split-up album.

Let It Be wasn't their split-up record, Abbey Road was. _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Correct, but Let It Be was the last one released.

Yes, I know that, but Let It Be sounds more like the split-up album. Where they collaborated on Abbey Road, Let It Be was more unstructured affected by artists who wanted to go their own way.

In that case, the White Album is their "split-up album". It might as well be three solo albums tacked together. _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Let it be has some of their best stuff on it- you guys are crazy!
Yellow Submarine would have to be their worst, not Let it be.
1."Two of Us" - Awesome
2."Dig a Pony" -Awesome
3."Across the Universe"- Awesome
4."I Me Mine"- Awesome
5."Dig It" - fun
6."Let It Be"- Awesome
7."Maggie Mae"- classic old folk rock-ok
1."I've Got a Feeling"- Great
2."One After 909"- Great
3."The Long and Winding Road" - I'll admit, worst Beatles song ever. But the naked version is much better.
4."For You Blue"- awesome
5."Get Back" - awesome
Yellow Submarine
1. "Yellow Submarine" - ok at best
2. "Only a Northern Song" Good
3. "All Together Now" Good
4. "Hey Bulldog" Great, but a bit silly at the end, which kinda makes it great.
5. "It's All Too Much" Great
6. "All You Need Is Love" Great, but originally on magical mystery tour, doesn't count here.
Then you have this. George Martin was known as a great producer, not composer. This stuff is just horrible.
1. "Pepperland" 2:21
2. "Sea of Time" 3:00
3. "Sea of Holes" 2:17
4. "Sea of Monsters" 3:37
5. "March of the Meanies" 2:22
6. "Pepperland Laid Waste" 2:19
7. "Yellow Submarine in Pepperland" (Lennon–McCartney, arranged by Martin)

I just feel Phil's arrangement ruined that song.

Yellow Submarine is not that bad either. The song Yellow Submarine is better than just "ok at best". And three other songs on the album are awesome: Hey Bulldog, It's All Too Much, All You Need Is Love.
Of course, you can just ignore Side 2.
IMO, though, Yellow Submarine was NOT a real Beatles album. The Beatles themselves didn't consider it one, either.
