You mean Eclectic?
Also, I'd have to go with Aeroplane over the Sea as one. I mean, how many independent rock outfits from the 90's had albums with funeral dirges? It's obvious he draws on a WIDE array of influences, even from outside of modern pop music.

Why didn't you just re-name this thread instead of starting a new one?

Well hey, now that this thread is here, maybe we should just discuss the most eccentric album of all time Very Happy

Now, I'm sure there's a lot that tops it in eccentricity, but as far as even semi-listenable music goes, I'd say Trout Mask Replica is certainly up there.

After reading the title of this thread on the main page I immediately thought of Trout mask. Come to think of it, it is also fairly eclectic. Ranging from mountain man (The dust blows forward) to pirate (orange claw hammer) to political (Dachau blues) etc.

Y. Bhekhirst - Hot in the Airport
Arcesia - Reachin'
Anything by Wesley Willis, Jandek, The Holy Modal Rounders, or Sun Ra

The further you look outside the boundaries of conventional music, the more eccentric things tend to get. Within the "mainstream," I'd definitely agree with Trout Mask and Disco Volante being some of the weirdest music ever to get national recognition.
