I am in the middle of a debacle- my older brother, growing up along the veins of grunge music, claims Nirvana's Nevermind to be one of the greatest albums of all time. Now, I was too young to remember Nirvana's impact firsthand, but I have yet to realize its power. Don't get me wrong, the first side is one of the most strongest list of songs I have ever heard, but the second half is very weak. Is there a reason why I should consider it to be a legendary album?

Nevermind is good, and it IS extremely influential, because it helped bring rock back into the mainstream in the 90s. However, I think In Utero and Unplugged in New York (live) are both better albums (In Utero is on my list).
Would I put Nevermind in a top 50? probably. But it's not top 10 caliber, in my opinion.

I think it's one of those over hyped albums that only stands out because it was more popular than similar works.

Doesn't mean I don't like it. I'd listen to it any day over 95% of music.

I agree with ya- It's just not God's gift, or science's gift, to rock music.

very true elston. the pixies did everything nirvana did a few years earlier, besides unplugged. I'd say that Unplugged in NY is nirvana's best album.

Pixies - Doolittle is a far better album, but Nevermind out-sold it 10 to 1 and therefore had a far greater influence on the generation who were 10 to 16 years old in 1991.
