Holy smokes - you'd think the album of the day was by Nickleback, based on the reaction. Exile is a fantastic album. It's raw, varied, and creative. The world's biggest rock band at the time, indulging their creative whims and pushing themselves. It has no hit singles, and doesn't cater to hit radio - but who cares? It's tough to call it the Stones greatest (right up there with Between the Buttons, Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers and Some Girls) but is one of their landmark albums. It belongs in the top albums of all time. =D>

I'm confused by the animosity towards this album on this site. This truly is a great record. No, it's not polished and over-produced (that used to be a good thing) and it doesn't actually blaze any trails. However, it's genuine. When listening to this album, you get the feeling that the boys were truly putting their souls into it. There's many different styles represented on this album, but none of them sound forced.
"Happy," "Torn and Frayed," "Tumbling Dice," "Let it Loose," "Shine a Light," "Rocks Off," "Ventilator Blues," "Sweet Virginia," "Loving Cup," "Rip the Joint"...oh, man...this stuff is great!
Yes, I like "Sticky Fingers" better. I also like "Some Girls" and "Their Satanic Majesty's Request" better. However, this album is right up there.
The best track? For that, you'd have to pull out the bonus disc from the most recent re-release. "Loving Cup" from that bonus disc is definitely the best track. _________________ Speakers of the House DJ

The greatest effort by the world's second greatest band (and probably the greatest straight rock n roll band as The B-boys weren't quite that).
Stellar album from start to finish.

Haha, hilarious how the first page is almost all fools carrying on about how overrated the album is when there's that many people who don't get it. Perhaps you need to have gone through puberty before you enjoy this album.

Wrong thread, you are looking for Funeral. Summed it up quite accurately as well

Not quite sure why one is a fool for feeling that EOMS is not the best Stones album. Personally when I compare it to an album like Sticky Fingers it just plain falls short. Consider the best 5 songs on each album and there is no contest. Here are 5 from Sticky Fingers.
Brown Sugar
Wild Horses
Can't You Hear Me Knocking
Bitch
Sister Morphine
Let It Bleed album
Gimme Shelter
Love in Vain
Midnight Rambler
Monkey Man
You Can't Always Get What You Want

Luckily I don't judge albums by looking at only a certain percent of their content removing them from context and then comparing
also "fools" was more playful smack talk than a comment on anyone's intelligence. Glad I had to explain that.

Yeah, haters to the left, this album is really good. It isn't the Stones' best but it's about as solid as rock comes. _________________ I love all music. It makes you feel like living. Silence is death.
