Not really my cup of tea, but certainly a revolutionary album in bringing alternative rock and grunge into the mainstream.

Breed is a personal favourite of mine.
It might be worth checking out In Utero now that I think about it.

Let's see. Smells like Teen Spirit is easily one of the 10 greatest songs of all time (even Rolling Stone magazine, which originally gave Nevermind 3 out of 5 stars, ranked this song as #9 of all time). Breed, Territorial Pissings, Lounge Act, and Stay Away are all addictively fast-paced and catchy. Lithium and On a Plain are downright gorgeous (which is particularly impressive considering the genre of music they belong to). In Bloom and Come As You Are are just really great, straightforward grunge rock tunes (Drain You isn't quite as straightforward, but it probably belongs in this category as well). Polly has an incredibly haunting mood that manages to keep my attention despite its slow pace. Something in the Way is the one song on the album that I will admit I've never particularly cared for, but even it has some really gorgeous string melodies.

In short, this album is perfect.

I agree. But the fact that they acknowledged a song in a genre they generally have very little respect for as the #9 song of all time is certainly saying something.

it isn't really surprising at all, this album transcends those lines. i don't know how old you are but i was 16 when it came out.

like a bunch of people who were of age on here are saying, it changed the world.

that is why it is so high on charts like rolling stone and these objective charts on this site.

I have tried this album multiple times. I simply do not understand it. I find it painfully boring, and at times, unbearably annoying. And it's not the style itself, I love the Pixies. This album just feels like everything I have ever heard before. 1.5/10 IMO.

Well said....I saw Nirvana at the Reading festival back in the day and it was one of the worst gigs I've ever seen. This album is totally overrated - a bit like the grunge equivalent of Sgt Peppers in that it codified an interesting genre into something banal.

I'd like people to give me reasons as to why this album changed the face of music.
