Love it. Beck stripped clean of any pretense, and bearing his trampled heart for all.

Odelay was an exception album in the Beck's discography, all the others are just so so, and Sea change is not an exception. Little One is a good song though.

I'm a big Beck fan. I love Odelay, Guero, the Information and Midnite Vultures but I always thought this was dreadfully dreary and depressing stuff. I would even say... self indulgent. I know critics liked this a lot though.

I'm pretty sure it's one of the most depressing albums ever and in that sense, utterly perfect for a break up soundtrack. A lot of the music is lush and beautiful too, but perhaps because there is so little joy and so much sadness and depression, it hasn't stuck with me. Maybe I'll go back to it some day. Rolling Stone gave this one five stars, which implies that they thought this was going to be a classic. Does anyone really think it deserves that status or has held up over time? I just can't imagine someone keeping this one in heavy rotation. I think Mutations is his most down to Earth, yet also interesting and satisfying album, for me anyway.

Good album (65/100), but Beck can do muuuuuuuuuuuch better. I do appreciate the idea of doing albums where artists try out different things from what they've done before. Does it work? Mostly. But as I said, it's not without its (many) flaws either.

In which Beck tries to please his French audience by shamelessly ripping Gainsbourg off ("Paper Tiger" - mind you, this record probably got him his job with Charlotte) and rewrites his persona as a woeful loser (and do we not like beautiful crying losers, oh yeah). Far from his best. Still, "Lost Cause" and "It's All In Your Mind" are good, and the overall result is easy on the ear. Above average.

I have long been of the opinion that Serge Gainsbourg has influenced the development of popular music in many ways, in different countries. And Mr. Beck is not the only ... this is an example from Finland for the year 2009:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91W-YoBgYgc&ob=av2e
and 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U2Vq88wm3o
