When this album came out RHCP were pretty much my favorite band. I wasted so much time trying to like this album...

This is when they really started to get old and repetitive.

Am I the only person who sees this band lasting as long as The Rolling Stones? Are people comforted by that thought? Sleep tight...

Much as I usually respect pearljammer's opinion I have to disagree. I think RHCP remained a great band throughout the aughts. Frusciante is the key. I liked a whole lot of this album even though now I did make myself sick of it. Stadium Arcadium was, imo, a stunning collection of music and a bit better and bolder.

Still... the best tracks here were Dosed, The Zephyr Song and Tear. It's easy to forget how original and strong the sound of this band is. Backlash is something only truly great bands can earn, when you think about it.

No, I can definitely see it. Kiedis, at least, doesn't show many signs of quitting any time soon.

Blech. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is decent, but it's rather pathetic that this "just okay" album is ahead of:
-Elliott Smith-Either/Or
-Counting Crows-August and Everything After
-Alanis Morissette-Jagged Little Pill
-Tribe Called Quest-Low End Theory
-Rush-2112
-Electric Wizard-Dopethrone
-Miles Davis-Bitches Brew
-Joanna Newsom-Ys
-Iron Maiden-The Number of the Beast

Blood Sugar Sex Magik? Just okay? Surely you jest.

EDIT: Oh, I gotcha. You meant By the Way. Still, BSSM is MUCH better than decent.
