Electronica was what was up in the 90's and although it's popularity died down at the beginning of the new millenium although many indie bands have been influenced by the style of electronica bands from the 90's.

Anyway, I love electronica and i'd like to hear what you all think of it and which bands, albums, and songs are your favorites.

The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld - The Orb

My Favorite Electronica album. 1 Hour and 50 Minutes of genre defining, ground breaking, genius. The release of this album along with Chill Out kick started the beginning of the second summer of love.

Track Picks:

Supernova at the End of the Universe
Back Side of the Moon
Into the Fourth Dimension: Essenes in Starlight
A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain...

But to get the full vibe and greatness of the album you need to listen to it from beginning to end.

I've been listening to more techno lately (basically 90s electronica/rave sped up really fast) and i really like it. Techno seems to get a bad wrap for whatever reason but theres some really talent in the genre. In particular I like:

Moby
Plastikman
Derrick May
Juan Atkins
Inner City
The Black Dog (AKA Black Dog Productions)
Frankie Knuckles
Moodymann
Underworld

Here's something interesting i just read about The KLF, a highly popular electronic band in Britian between 1988 to 1994.

"From the outset, they adopted the philosophy espoused by esoteric novel series The Illuminatus! Trilogy, gaining notoriety for various anarchic situationist manifestations, including the defacement of billboard adverts, the posting of prominent cryptic advertisements in NME magazine and the mainstream press, and highly distinctive and unusual performances on Top of the Pops. Their most notorious performance was at the February 1992 BRIT Awards, where they fired machine gun blanks into the audience and dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party. This performance announced The KLF's departure from the music business, and in May 1992 the duo deleted their entire back catalogue."
