- Post subject: Bands your collection says you should love, but you don't
|
I'm not talking about bands you think suck per se, just bands that you yourself have given a chance because your own musical preferences hint you should love them or like-minded music fans have recommended.
Bands someone else might be surprised you don't love.
For me, the list is:
R.E.M. - Should be right in my wheelhouse... I even love R.E.M. copycats Guided By Voices... but something just doesn't connect for me.
Pink Floyd - I'm a fan, but don't understand the sales/general adulation
My Morning Jacket - Been recommended by a ton of friends, just don't hear it
The Pixies - Blasphemy right? I love guitar-based indie rock. I'm even from Boston. Strike me down, rock gods.
The White Stripes - Like them enough when listening, but rarely ever seek their music out on purpose.
Two albums that sorta fit this description: Astral Weeks and Pet Sounds.

Sonic Youth - It's getting better and I like some of their stuff now, but I was massively dissapointed after hearing Daydream Nation for the first time.
Flaming Lips - They're alright, but the singer's voice is just too damn annoying to me.
Can't think of anything else right now

Given my love of progressive rock, everyone is always really shocked when I tell them I hate Rush.

I think The Beach Boys for me. Pet Sounds is a pretty nice album, and it'll probably go on my chart when I get some more entries available; but other than that, their sound doesn't really do much for me.

I guess Metallica. I love most kinds of metal, but whenever I listen to them I'm always wondering why I'm not listening to something else

Have you tried "Rather Ripped"? More pop-orientated than some of their other albums. My girlfriend generally hates my music (she's into electro  ) but likes this album a lot...

Rush isn't prog. It's virtuosity power pop, mostly dealing with lengthy songs and science fiction (also known as geek pop, sciencecore etc.)
And now somebody need to fucking tell how that damn quote system works!

The Beatles i guess, since i love rock ! but i still don't find them even good, just an average band ( i only rated 1 song 5/5: Tomorrow Never Knows from Revolver).

Interesting topic. I've always thought of a few bands I should like, but simply don't.
My list would look like:

Tool
Suede
Cream
Jane's Addiction
My Morning Jacket
Portishead
De La Soul
Guided By Voices
The Mars Volta
Flying Lotus
Can
are all bands in my 'favourite genre's group', that I can't get into
