I have not listened to the title track though....what is is like?

also I'm seeing them live in october which is very exciting Cool

The Seer, the song is very experimental just like the long length tracks on Soundtracks For The Blind, if you're alredy familiar with that album.

i also just booked my ticket to see them in Paris in November ! can't wait !

Albums over 75 minutes always make me weary if they can hold my attention for long, or if it needs that long to get it's message across.

From what I've read it seems like a pretty ambitious album though, and from your excitement it must be worth a shot. Maybe I'll listen to it in two chunks, or is that not a good idea?

I caved in and listened to the whole thing. One tiring trip. My thoughts even though no one cares:

tentative rating: 70/100, maybe 2nd or 3rd best album of the year so far.

The good:
-Big buildups like soundtracks for the blind, but with far more dissonance
-krautrocky grooves
-Gira pulls a Damo Sazuki impression at the end of the title track
-"Song for a Warrior" is the greatest thing ever
-Some innovative textures and atmospheres

the bad (there are some problems):
-The long instrumental sections on the three huge tracks could be cut down in length quite a bit, they don't need to go on forever
-The songs tend to have akward structures, not as smoothly constructed as they could be
-It still stands in the shadow of Swans' earlier albums, many of which I think are among the best albums ever.

That's very strange from Probably the biggest fan of Swans here. This album is like a very best of their earlier work. you maybe need much more time to digest the whole thing Smile

Fuck.

I need to listen to Swans Laughing I've heard an EP by them. That's it. Soundtrack For The Blind, the one with the rabbit on the cover, and this are on my to-listen list.
