A mediocre album by an amazing band. It was the first Pixies album that I could've seen another band creating.

I never get tired of Is She Weird, though.

This. Quality-wise, Bossanova is their Loaded (if Surfer Rosa is WL/WH, Doolittle is VU & Nico, Trompe le Monde is VU's self titled 1969 album).

Surprisingly, this makes perfect sense.

Couldn't agree less. It's no Doolittle, but it's not mediocre. It's a (very) good pop-surf-rock album. If you haven't listened to it, don't be put off by swedenman's comment, it's a very enjoyable listen really, with epic moments ('All Over the World').

I'd be curious to know what other band could have released this at the time? It sounds like Pixies, period.

To say it is mediocre would be harsh, it's just good. Not mindblowing or anything.

I don't understand this. "Just" good? What's wrong with good albums?

Nothing, and his comment didn't imply that there's anything wrong with good albums. He just said that it's a good album and no more.

Good is good enough for me. Anyway, Bossanova is a very good record from where I stand, and I'd advise to listen to it. Good fun.
