- Post subject: CLOSED-Best Ever Novelist tournament- NOMINATIONS
|
Yep, another tourney for y'all, my dah-lings. I don't think there's been a lounge-based tourney since I started and with the Best Year tourney on a short break I thought it would be a good idea to get a new one started, and best ever novelist sounds like a good idea cause we're all authors here! Also I don't want to muck up the music games thread, and especially if anybody has any future ideas for a new one in that forum in the near future I don't want to discourage them from starting one .
Im not sure how to structure it: do you all want a conventional knockout tournament, or one where the captains nominate a "team" of novels for each novelist? Hopefully in this nominations thread people will give a good idea of the best way to go about this, I'll let the people decide...
Anyways, I think for basic rules of nominating authors is that they are primarily authors of novellas or novelists- authors in general are too vague (as that could include pretty much any published writer), and for the basis of comparison it makes a lot more sense to keep it strictly novel/novella writers. Other than that, there are no rules in terms of country of origin or language or anything like that (plus it would be great to have as many international authors in the tournament as possible, though choosing authors who've only been published in your country of origin will unfortunately have a very limited audience)
Edit: and a rule for promtion is that you can only promote your authors Novels/Novellas work to keep the tournament consistient. Obviously each person who nominates their author is responsible for promotion (though I'll let everybody join in hyping their favorites). I'll keep a list of captains and nominated authors, so check it first before you nominate... and I'll try to keep it updated as dilligently as possible (though I do have a day job and have to sleep occassionaly, so it won't be 24/7 )
Edit: we're doing knockout people. Trying to get to 64 nods but who knows...
Start with two each, and then after the first round of nominations die down I'll open up to people nominating two more, and if we don't get to a good 32 or 64 by then I'll just let people keep nominating till we get to one of those good, even tournament-friendly number of nominations
Anyways I'll Start:
Charlotte Bronte
Gustave Flaubert

I know there's no way Jackwc isn't nominating Cormac McCarthy, so I'll go with:

Okay, while deliberating with some friends over how to structure this, it seems like a knockout structure is a much better way to go, especially since a team structure would favor only the most prolific authors and it's much easier to say listen to an album than read an entire book in 4-5 days time... so I think that's how we'll go with this baby...
