As I listened through the entire Stones discography, I came to realize even more so than before a different vibe after them losing Brian Jones. Some great work before and after... just different.

Which era do you like more:

"Time Is on My Side" (Norman Meade) 2:59
"Heart of Stone" 2:49
"Play With Fire" (Nanker Phelge) 2:13
"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" 3:43
"As Tears Go By" (Mick Jagger/Keith Richards/Andrew Loog Oldham) 2:44
"Get Off of My Cloud" 2:55
"Mother's Little Helper" 2:44
"19th Nervous Breakdown" 3:56
"Paint It, Black" 3:23
"Under My Thumb" 3:42
"Ruby Tuesday" 3:16
"Let's Spend the Night Together" 3:37
"Jumpin' Jack Flash" 3:41
"Street Fighting Man" 3:14
"Sympathy for the Devil" 6:18
"Honky Tonk Women" 3:00
"Gimme Shelter" 4:31
"Midnight Rambler" (Live) 9:14

There are still really many Stones albums left that I haven't heard. Out of what I've heard, the 60s were the decade where Rolling Stones made the greatest music, imo.

Like most I think late 60s, early 70s was best for the Stones.

They're earlier stuff had its moments, but didn't do anything new or spectacular, much like The Beatles.

Exactly, that's why I find this so interesting because they had a great stint both before and after 1969. I mean their best album as listed on this site is Exile, which is the second half, my favorite stuff is actually before then... I am curious if there is a group out there that thinks that the stones after 1969 is their favorite.

The era without all the suck in it,

so that'd be none.

Actually, I'm being facetious, I enjoy the Rolling Stones throughout most of their discography, but they never really improved.

I don't understand why you throw the singles from Sticky Fingers into the first category and then throw the album into the second category in your two timelines. If it's based on when Jones died, I know for a fact that Wild Horses was recorded after his death, and should be in the second category.

Anyways, I think Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street are better than sliced bread, but if I were to vote between these categories, I'd go with the earlier stuff.

From Beggers Banquet in 68 to Exile on Main St in 72 the stones were at their peak and as good as anyone. Everything either side of them years just isn't for me, the odd decent song here and there but some terrible albums.

Because that is what the Rolling Stones did in their best of collections, as the sections were titled.

Cool, thanks for voting honestly Smile.
