Sweetnighter by Weather Report

A much funkier album then some of their more fusion sounding outings but a great record none the less. Original bassist so pre Jako but still phenomenal work throughout. An enjoyable record as are all Weather Report records. A very good record 4/5

E•MO•TION by Carly Rae Jepsen

I'm actually pretty surprised I liked this as much as I did. I mean, I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it at all. I thought it was a decent album that's fun, catchy, and easy to listen to. It's pop music, so I wasn't expecting it to change my life or anything, but it was fun to listen to for sure.

Great pick! An old favourite of mine that I haven't listened to for a few years. Great to hear it again...so abrasive, brutal, and nasty!

I'll hop in to get some listening ideas.

@Purplepash, seeing as how we have very similar 90s tastes, my rec is:

Smoking Land by King Weed

This was fine, but if I'm going to listen to Stoner Rock, then I'm probably just going to stick with Kyuss and Clutch. Best track was probably the title cut.

Carpents! Welcome to the game. You have The Cure and The Smiths in your top 10, so I'll give you this band. I wrote about most of their albums in my diary a little while back.

Epic Garden Music by Sad Lovers And Giants

This is their debut, available on youtube, it's a quick one.

@Chief, yeah you nailed that one. I'm more of a Cure-head than my charts show actually.

Epic Garden Music by Sad Lovers And Giants
Lots of Seventeen Seconds era Cure sound in there, I liked it a lot. Heard some early Smiths in the track 'Clint' I believe but most of it was definitely a cool little early Cure sound, perhaps at a time or two some early Depeche Mode? Although I think Robert Smith has a better singing voice, and Morrissey's lyrics are unbeatable (when they're good).

In any case, I liked it, and have never heard of the band or album.

So now I get to give you a recommendation right back. This is definitely going to be harder for me than it is for you guys, I don't listen to nearly as much as you.

Well here's an album I really like from the 90s, the vocals aren't great but aren't supposed to be. It reminds me in a way of someone close to me. Wink

RoadKillOvercoat by Busdriver

really interesting boundary pushing underground rap. original rhymes and samples creates a really unique listening experience. this album is something you don't hear enough in hip hop it is unique and original sounding. thanks for the introduction i definitely enjoyed the freshness of the record. ill surely give it a few more spins before i decide how much i like it but it is absolutely intriguing and a record i am VERY glad i got to hear.

This was a cool pick for me. Indie rock with a post-punk vibe at times. My sort of thing. The singer's voice reminded me of Robert Smith. Would like to hear it a couple more times to get a better feel of the album as a whole and see if it grows on me because I think it might do. On first listen I really enjoyed the track This Time more than any other.

Plastic Cough by Great Grandpa

Pretty solid album with a strong Jimmy Eat World kind of feel to it. Lyrically it's pretty strong at points, but a little inconsistent (kinda weird that the last song is all about zombies, but I still like the song), and while it's musically pretty simple, that works to its advantage, letting the lyrics take front and center.

Purple, you can have this (if you haven't heard it):

Ayo let's get back to this all right! I'm having some hella good time to listen to music this month so hit me with some GOOD MUSIC. like the music with sounds, and sometimes people sing to it.... Sometimes we even have saxophone solos in it... Music can be gay too, I'm fine with that.... I like gay music.... Give me music

To rocky this is one of my favs from last year, and it's a lovely brazilian production (national seal of quality!)
