Animal Collective-Campfire Songs |
Finished this. I kinda liked it, but I think Animal Collective will take some time growing on me. It's not an overnight favorite by any means, but definitely will grow on me in days to come.
So, for DLGGLD...

Also I asinged you one of their most ambient works, and one that falls into their string of experimental-ish albums, so by no means should you take that as a descriptor of their music as a whole.
But it's one of their most underrated albums.

Reviewing Coming Out Of The Fog by Arbouretum suggested by Tekin.
I thought this was just on the brink of being really average. The entire album sounded very samey, and the vocalist did very little to add much emotion other than sounding a little bit mopey. The guitar work was good, but it wasn't matched with any other strong melodies to make the record engaging. Oceans Don't Sing was easily the standout track, I really enjoyed that - a great little uplifting gem there, it was worth the listen for that. Unfortunately after that song I had even forget I put the album on, and discovered a while afterwards that the album had ended. Also I'm a little confused at nutso's comparison to Belle and Sebastian. A little too passive for me, but thanks for the reccomendation.
65/100
My album for nutso is..
Collapse Into Now by R.E.M.

I think I remember you mentioning that you enjoyed Blu & Exile's Below The Heavens (apologies if that wasn't you), so I'm going to recommend another soulful West Coast hip-hop album you may enjoy. The production - courtesy of the ever amazing Madlib - is some of the best of the last few years, and it's a great album for learning to admire rappers as vocalists and not just lyricists.

The musical styles are different, I was just comparing how they both have very mellow albums, all the way through. The pace never really changes up too much.
There's probably better comparisons to make, but I had just listened to Belle & Sebastian recently, and that's what it made me think of.
As for the album recommendation, I had no idea R.E.M was still recording up to 2011, so this should be interesting to hear.
