Please Please Me by The Beatles

That's right, 50 years ago today the Beatles debut album dropped. March 22nd, 1963. It was the beginning of Beatle Mania. Bam!

I bought it last night and I am listening now.

It should also be noted that it is the 48th anniversary of "Bringing It All Back Home" by Bob Dylan.

Anyway, don't hate in this special musical holiday!

It is an incredibly important day in the history of music.

A great debut album which is overshadowed by almost all their other albums, especially their albums from the second half of the sixties (maybe the exception is Beatles for Sale, or With the Beatles)

I've listened to the album today, the remastered stereo release and then the original mono. The original mono is so much better.

Really? Shoot! All I have is the stereo mix. Well, I'm pretty excited about it. Very nice record.

Can I add a little something? Today's also the birthday of play writer Andrew Lloyd Webber, famous for The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and Jesus Christ Superstar!

Also, I'll be trying out Please Please Me today after lunch. I kinda like the Beatles. Happy B-day to the Fab Four!

Not the best debut out there, but still pretty kickass. Half the songs are brilliant, I would say. 50 years already....I remember it being released as if it was yesterday! I was minus 20-30 years at the time, and...wait, nevermind.

My favourite Beatles record. It's just so urgent compared to the others, and there's a real sense of innocence about it. I don't care that half of the album is made up of covers, in fact 'Chains', 'Baby It's You' and 'Twist & Shout' are possibly my favourite three songs on the album. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I just love the fact that they clearly hadn't become too concerned with studio trickery or trying to push boundaries, it just makes for such a fun record. It's actually quite twee, and it fills me with that same feeling of joy that listening to early Orange Juice does (even though I feel Orange Juice, at their best, were a superior band). Anyway, I love this album, it's the only Beatles record that's ever been on my chart, and it's nice to see it getting some attention when it's usually the later albums that are so frequently lauded.

Nice! I had no idea!
And yeah give it a go. The record is really good and very energetic and vibrant. It doesn't feel, idk, like the Beatles are all caught up in their greatness yet. It feel so natural. It's like just a group of people in their very early 20s making music they know and love and showing off their own sound. And it was recorded in one day that whole album! Pretty badass!
