Listened to this just the other day and it REALLY clicked.

Usually older music feels like a chore, but this is absolutely exceptional. Only Joanna Newsom has been able to capture a similar scent of magic, from what I've heard.

Yeah, what the last 2 peeps said I agree with- this album is magic. It's an enchanting record for most of it. Really truly one of those albums that is so unique it's hard to give a succinct description of it. Beautiful mix of jazz, soul and folk.

I will say his vocals and songwriting are stellar almost all the way. The vocals feel a bit overly melodramatic and a tad too repetitive sometimes.

Otherwise really good solid album.

I was listening to this the day my first niece was born.

An amazing album. It's so rare that you ever hear anyone criticise this album, there seems to be a general consensus amongst most avid music listeners I've come across that this is great, which doesn't happen often (Marvin Gaye's What's Going On is another album of that ilk). I'd urge anyway who likes this to check out Veedon Fleece if you haven't done so already. It's my favourite Van album, and not too dissimilar to this one in terms of vibe. I can totally understand why many prefer this, but Veedon Fleece also deserves some love.
