Sure, we've got a website where we can show everyone else our favorite albums, but I want to see everyone's top 10 favorite artists. I can tell alot of people's favorites from their charts obviously, but I'm interested in the not so obvious artists that will show up in people's top 10.
My main motive for this is to explore artists that are grouped with artists I like in peoples' charts here. Please put the full ten (and no more, so you really have to narrow it down) so everyone's chart doesn't look like "The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, The Clash." And, doesn't have to be in order.
My Top Ten (in no order)
The Stooges
Joy Division
Nirvana
Sonic Youth
Velvet Underground
The Clash
Black Flag
PJ Harvey
Wire
The Pixies
The Who
Modest Mouse
The Kinks
Black Sabbath
Motorhead
Rage Against The Machine
Led Zeppelin
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
King Crimson
Bob Dylan
Notable runners-up include Judas Priest, Genesis, The Pogues, The Flaming Lips, The Replacements, Talking Heads, Metallica, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones. To answer your next question, yeah, I'm kind of big classic rock guy
Nick Drake
The Beatles
The Smiths
Will Oldham (a.k.a Palace Brothers, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy)
Robert Wyatt
Cat Power
The Velvet Underground
John Coltrane
Portishead
Leila

Only recently have I heard of Wilham, and then I saw his album I see a Darkness" on pitchfork's 90s list. What does that album sound like, Bates, and is that one your favorite?
My favourite song from the album, which is not my favourite LP, but still is excellent. Oldham's music is generally very melancholy, but at times he can rock as well (as on "Work Hard/Play Hard" on Palace Music's Viva Last Blues).
When I have to explain what Oldham sounds like, I generally say he's the Neil Young of my generation, his americana covers pretty much the range Neil's does. Country, folk, blues or rock at times, generally lo-fi in the 90s, more orchestrated these days.
My favorite Will Oldham albums :
The Palace Brothers, There Is No-One What Will Take Care of You (1993)
The Palace Brothers, Days In the Wake (1994)
Will Oldham, Joya (1997)
Matt Sweeney & Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Superwolf (2003)
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Letting Go (2006)
