this quarantine is messing me up. i went full hipster (mustache, sideburns, striped shirts, tight jeans, etc.) and redesigned my chart to exclude albums with >25 ratings, so it's gotten kind of obscure - not to the nth degree - charles mingus, nina simone, broadcast, et al make appearances with less widely-known albums. i'm going through this phase, right? where i don't feel the need to introduce the world to radiohead or bjork cause everyone's already familiar with them. even in their absence, i think there're some obvious enough leanings that you can tell i still love them.

Just updated my overall chart for the first time in almost two years. It was badly outdated so there was quite a bit of turnover, including a big change at the top. There's even a jazz album on it now! Unfortunately my descriptions have only gotten longer, but I also took the opportunity to rewrite a few of them that I no longer agreed with.

Updated my overall for the first time in over a year. Very Nick Cavey. Perhaps more than ever before.

I noticed your new country chart. I can't say I've heard enough millennial country to judge the chart when it's finished. Although, after the emo and noise charts, I didn't think you were a modern country type.

I like all forms of music, tbh. I don't draw the line at pop or post-grunge or whatever like a lot of other guys do. (Though I am critical of the worst detractors of each genre)

I think I can further clarify my opinion: I didn't expect you to work on a modern country chart before other projects related to the ones you've already done.

Which reminds me, I need to get more work done on a hardcore punk chart.

And do you have any recommendations for obscure German and American power metal acts? I'm thinking about doing power metal charts based on countries.

Lesser know acts from the US and Germany, eh? Oddly specific, but I like specific.

You'll probably be looking at bands like Mystic Prophecy, Human Fortress, Silent Force, Scanner, Powerwolf, Orden Ogan, Almanac, Iron Savior, Eternity's End, At Vance, Stormwarrior, and some others for Germany. For America, I guess you'd be keen on looking into Cage, Helion Prime (only their debut tho), Steel Prophet, Theocracy, Pharaoh, and Judicator. Honestly I think American Power Metal has often been an inconsistent, forgettable scene outside of some key acts and some surprises. Power Metal seems to do better in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Japan, Finland, Italy, and the like.

I'm glad you're a Stormwarrior fan, too. I think they're phenomenal.
