As far as I can tell this site is mostly populated by bored young men. So with that in mind what do you like to listen to while you play video games?
Share your playlists if you like! I am trying to make a new one myself and having trouble filling it up.

I think most video game music is an important part of the experience, and I wouldn't want to substitute that.

Usually I just throw my iTunes on shuffle but I bought a gaming headset not long ago so now I don't listen to music when I play.

Hey, lets not forget bored old men listen to music and play video games too. As for what I listen to, it all depends what I'm playing.
If it's something like Skyrim I'll usually plump for a bit of ambience, downtempo or some appropriate sounding post-rock, but if it's something like Borderlands 2 then I'll go with electro, techno, big beat/breakbeat or underground hip-hop. Whatever is likely to enhance the experience.
[Edit] And I'm all for ambiguity but calling a topic "Topic" won't do this thread any favours.

Mmm I agree it is important for many games. certainly not the majority though.

Online competitive games would be an example where it's less improtant.
Also, some games have looping music where one just sort of... gets it after a while, especially older games or simpler games in general.
I'd say music is probably only really important for experience-type games. Adventure, some RPGs, and such.

By no means am I a gamer, but on the occasion I do play videogames (my brother has a PS3), I'll put on anything, but almost never the game music. Usually I'll be in the middle of an album when I start, so I just use that. The last two albums I distinctly remember listening to while playing were Something Else by the Kinks and Modern Vampires of the City.

Games like Counter Strike you can't afford to have anything playing, because you ought to be fully aware of your surroundings.

If Oblivion had a different soundtrack (which is actually on my chart) it would have taken a huge piece of the experience away. Though some games' soundtracks do get kind of repetitive, for instance, I usually mute the music on Minecraft.

Minecraft is a great example. Last time I played that, I was listening to Anamanaguchi's 8-bit opus Endless Fantasy.
